ELOISE AT THE PLAZA creators are on the look out for a young girl to star as Eloise.

GILMORE GIRLS creator Amy Sherman-Palladino will helm the new movie. The film is based on Kay Thompson and Hillary Knight’s 1955 book, “Eloise,” Woman’s World reported on Aug. 28.

The book focuses on a mischievous little girl named Eloise, who lives in New York at the Plaza Hotel. She occupies her time between her pet turtle, Skipperdee, her dog, Weenie, and British nurse Nanny.

The book’s description reads, “Eloise is a very special little girl who lives at The Plaza Hotel in New York City. She may not be pretty yet, but she’s definitely already a real person. She loves learning about people who aren’t boring.”

It’s been 22 years since there were live-action ELOISE movies — ELOISE AT THE PLAZA and ELOISE AT CHRISTMASTIME, which were made by Disney. An animated series called ME, ELOISE ran in 2006 on the Starz Kids and Family Network.

The casting director is looking for a “7-12 year old girl. A precocious, energetic, intelligent and charming young girl who calls the Plaza Hotel in New York City her home. Eloise is always ready for a new, mysterious and exciting adventure.”

Variety announced the movie was in the works in 2020. At the time, it reported Linda Woolverton, the woman behind MALEFICENT and MUFASA: THE LION KING, would write the movie for MRC Films, which produced KNIVES OUT and MORTAL ENGINES.

Woolverton is the first female screenwriter with sole credit on a film to gross over $1 billion at the global box office.

“I couldn’t be more excited and honored to adapt Kay Thompson’s delightful book and character for the screen with MRC Film,” Woolverton said. “I absolutely love Eloise for her mischievousness, her irreverence, her imagination and made-up words. Her playground, the Plaza Hotel, is an iconic symbol of all that’s wonderful about New York City.”

Variety reported Trudi Francis will executive produce the movie.

“Linda has helped create some of the most beloved characters of all time,” said MRC Film co-presidents Brye Adler and Jonathan Golfman. “We are honored and beyond excited to be partnering with her; and can’t wait to see her bring all of Eloise’s charm and heart and rascally-ness to life.”

Eloise fans can’t wait to see the precocious girl’s antics come to life on the big screen!
