Princess Kate just took a pretty impressive hike to raise awareness and funds for a cause that’s close to her heart: the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.

“Every year, hundreds of thousands of people in this country hear the words no one wants to hear. What follows is a path that tests every part of who we are: physically, emotionally, psychologically and spiritually,” the Princess of Wales wrote in an Instagram post. “The challenges ripple outwards, touching families, friendships, work and the quiet moments we spend alone with our thoughts.”

She explained that receiving a cancer diagnosis doesn’t just affect your body but also “how you think and feel and profoundly affects every aspect of life.”

“I know this personally, and that the journey through and beyond treatment requires more than medicine alone,” the princess continued. “I have taken on the National Three Peaks Challenge, not simply as a physical endeavour but as a chance to explore life beyond diagnosis and to give something back. The Royal Marsden is a place that holds great meaning for me and whose care and expertise are life changing for so many people.”

She shared that she hopes to raise awareness for “the deeper impact of serious illness and the importance of holistic healthcare,” adding, “We have an opportunity to reshape what the future of holistic cancer care looks like, enabling more people, nationwide, to access the kind of personalised support that can help make a meaningful difference during and after medical treatment.”

“Healing, whether personal or collective, is not just about fixing what is wrong. It is about finding balance in how we live,” the princess wrote. “Between effort and acceptance, between control and trust, between thinking and simply being. Because in the end, bravery isn’t just about pushing forward. It is about knowing how to stay grounded, connected and present, no matter the terrain or landscape you are walking.”

The Princess of Wales completed the Three Peaks Challenge in just 24 hours, hiking alongside others, many of whom did not realize they were sharing the trail with royalty.

“My friends did not notice her passing by at all,” Jacky Leung wrote in a Facebook post, via USA Today. “Completing the National Three Peaks Challenge in 24 hours is a serious test of grit, and Her Royal Highness showed immense strength and spirit.”

The princess shared she was undergoing chemotherapy for a cancer diagnosis in 2024. The following year, she announced she was in remission. She has not spoken much publicly about her battle with cancer, but during a 2025 visit to a UK hospital, the princess admitted that “the phase after [remission] is really…difficult.”

“It’s a rollercoaster, it’s not one smooth plain,” the Princess of Wales added.

Princess Kate’s recent hiking challenge will help raise awareness for new and different kinds of cancer treatment in the UK and beyond.
