Gary Sinise uses scripture to help him through hard times and invites others to do the same with a new Hallow challenge.
“During some of the hardest times our family has faced in recent years, our faith has truly helped to carry us through,” the actor captioned a social media video. “And I’ve seen what prayer can do in my own life and in the lives of the men and women I’ve had the privilege to know who serve and sacrifice for our country.”
In the video, Sinise read Romans 5:3-5 — “Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us,” per BibleGateway.
The FORREST GUMP actor called it a “powerful verse,” sharing that it is one that has been “important” to his family, as well as a verse that his late son Mac “really loved.”

Sinise then invited viewers to join Hallow’s American Heroes Challenge.
“Over the next 13 days leading up to the celebration of 250 years of American freedom, we’ll reflect on the lives of some extraordinary heroes,” Sinise wrote in the caption. “Not just the famous names, but the everyday men and women whose faith left a profound mark on this nation. People who understood that freedom isn’t free, and that it has to be fought for, protected, and passed on.”
He continued, “I love my country. I am grateful to be an American. And I know I don’t take it for granted…let’s celebrate this great nation with prayer, remembering who we are called to be. God bless.”
THE CHOSEN’s Jonathan Roumie posted about Sinise’s American Heroes Challenge as well, writing on Instagram, “Gary, alongside @cardinaltimothymdolan and Sr. Grace Dominic, will walk us through the lives of the heroes and Saints who shaped this nation. For 250 years, we have endeavored to be one nation under God. This is our opportunity to reflect on that legacy and on who we are called to be.”
Sinise has devoted his life to supporting America’s veterans. At a recent appearance at the Mackinac Policy Conference, he shared, “We can never do enough for them. And that’s what I say at the Gary Sinise Foundation all the time, is that we can never do enough, but we can always try to do a little more.”
Sinise and Hallow’s American Heroes Challenge is currently ongoing. Join in and learn more about some of the heroes who have helped shape our nation over the last 250 years.
