TOY STORY stars Tom Hanks and Tim Allen recently reflected on the TOY STORY franchise and how far it’s come.

At the end of TOY STORY 4, Woody, voiced by Hanks, leaves the other toys to go on his own adventure.

“I was aware of what was going to become of it, but when I saw…we’re at the end of the recording, and it was another 4-hour recording session. And I saw what the script was: ‘To infinity and beyond…’ We were all puddles,” Hanks recalled in an interview with Jace Diehl.

Hanks said that there in the room with everyone, he had an out-of-body experience.

“My spirit rose up, and I saw all of us in this recording studio on what would be the last day of working on TOY STORY and Buzz…I don’t remember driving home. I was in another state thinking that,” he explained.

In TOY STORY 5, Allen had to record 50 lines for as many Buzz Lightyears.

“They would add it when they cut to it,” Allen recalled. “’You got to say this, this, this, and this. State your name.’”

To add distinction to the voices, some voices had to sound drier or peppier. It was hard work for Allen.

“It was impossible,” he said.

In TOY STORY 5, the toys fight to protect their kid’s best interests after she’s introduced to an addictive technology — the tablet.

“The toys have usually worried about their own fates,” said producer Lindsey Collins. “This is really the first time we see them desperately worried about the fate of their kids. In this world, the toys are the parents to some degree.”

Moveguide® gave the movie a +1 rating. Each TOY STORY movie has been recognized at Movieguide®’s Faith & Values Awards Gala over the years, and TOY STORY 5 might be up for an award next year, too.

Part of Movieguide®’s review of TOY STORY 5, which came out on June 19, says, “TOY STORY 5 is a wonderful and funny animated ride. Everything leads to a delightful grand adventure with loads of cheers, laughs and tears… TOY STORY 5 also has a great warning for parents about not letting children become addicted to their tech devices and screens.”

Tony Hale, who plays Forky in the movies, said the toys’ sense of community is why the franchise is such a huge success.

He told The HoloFiles, “You see that family. You see that they’re rooting for each other.”

In whatever the toys go through, they always support each other. They have their cloudy days, but in the end, they know they only have one another.

“And there’s such power in that. There’s magic in that and we have to always keep that. That’s the longevity of Toy Story. That’s what’s kept it alive,” Hale said.

TOY STORY 5 opened to $312 million worldwide in its opening weekend, The Walt Disney Company reported. It has the second-largest animated debut of all time domestically after THE INCREDIBLES 2, and it’s still going steady at the box office.
