The BBC has just announced plans for a new docuseries exploring the life of Jesus Christ.
“This series is testament to the BBC’s commitment to religious programming that deepens our understanding of each other and the world around us,” the broadcaster’s head of religion and ethics, Daisy Scalchi, said in a statement.

The still-unnamed series will blend research, archaeology, technology and expert interviews to explore Jesus’ life, featuring interviews with “major thinkers” in Christianity, Judaism and Islam.
“Jesus Christ is one of the most recognised and influential figures in human history — yet what we know about him comes from remarkably few sources,” Scalchi continued. “This ambitious series will bring his life into focus like never before. With new historical research and insights, there has never been a more compelling moment to re-look at the evidence and follow the path of Jesus’ life to map how he sparked a revolution that continues to impact our lives over 2000 years later.”

The series will be directed by Owen Gower and produced by Wonderhood Studios.
“Few lives have shaped the world as profoundly as that of Jesus Christ and, for Christians, he is far more than a figure of history: he is the Son of God. Yet many of us know relatively little about the world Jesus came from — of the people, places, beliefs and conflicts that shaped his life and the world-changing religion that followed,” Tom Garton, Creative Director at Wonderhood Studios, shared.
He continued, “At Wonderhood, we want to make ambitious, cinematic television that tackles the biggest subjects, and that help explain our world today. We are enormously proud to be making this landmark series for the BBC.”
This isn’t the only project telling the story of Jesus’ life that’s on the way. Mel Gibson’s long-awaited sequel to THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST, titled THE RESURRECTION OF THE CHRIST, will premiere its first part next year, with PART TWO premiering in 2028.
“I’m deeply grateful to my incredibly talented cast and crew for pouring their hearts into this production. Together, we created something powerful,” Gibson said in a statement about the movie. “This film represents a major part of my life’s work, and it has demanded everything of me as a filmmaker and as an artist.”
He continued, “This is far more than a film to me. It’s a mission I’ve carried for over twenty years to tell what I believe is the most important story in human history. Reuniting with many of my original collaborators from THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST — true masters of their craft — allowed us to bring this story to the screen exactly as I envisioned it.”
The BBC’s four-part docuseries is set to debut in 2027.
