Following the sudden death of NASCAR driver Kyle Busch, NFL Hall of Fame coach and NASCAR legend Joe Gibbs reminded us that time goes faster than we think.

Busch passed away on May 21 from severe pneumonia, which escalated into sepsis, TODAY reported.

“For you and I, is there a clock ticking? One of the things we’re going to be celebrating out here today is Kyle Busch. Think about that — Kyle Busch. Okay, 243 wins in the three series, 59 Cup wins for us. Kyle Busch, 41 years old. Okay, and so the point being, for you and I, is there a clock ticking on our life? Absolutely,” Gibbs said in a video shared by his ministry, Game Plan for Life.

“I’m 85 — you’re supposed to go, you don’t look it,” he joked.

“Hey, I’m 85. I got Norm Miller, he’s 87,” Gibbs continued. “He told me, he says, ‘Joe, we’re playing in the fourth quarter on house money. I’m in a two-minute offense, I’m not even going back in the huddle, man.’ I envy you guys, most of you are 10, 20,  30, 40,  50 years, so the point is that there is a clock ticking, and so we want to make sure before that last tick that we’ve won in the game of life.”

“We want to make sure that we’re on the right team,” he emphasized. “There are only two teams in the game of life: it’s on God’s team, if you’ve made a conscious decision to get there, or we’re going to play against Him forever, and we all know where that place is.”

Gibbs also spoke with NASCAR on the CW and shared what Busch meant to him as a person.

“Well, he just meant a lot to us. Our race team was built with the people, and he was one of the key people who helped us in so many ways to build our race team, and so it just reflects on us in a number of ways,” he said. “I talked about how physically tough and mentally tough he was when he got hurt. I mentioned the fact that I think our crew chief, Adam, who was with him all that time, probably had the best description of Kyle. He said it was like a locomotive. He was going, and if you got on board, you’re going to do some great stuff. He’s going to take you some places.”

“Kyle was just one of those people who, in this world, was exceptional. I believe he was made to do this, and now we’re focused on his family, you know, Sam and Brexton and Lennix, and we’re just really praying for them and want to be a part of their life going forward,” Gibbs added.

Gibbs’ message is a powerful reminder that life is short, so we need to make sure we’re on “God’s team” before time runs out.
