Patricia Heaton shut down comments about her gray hair.
“Some of you seem very concerned about the silver in my hair,” she said in a recent Instagram video, referring to comments made on a previous post. “But let me just say, there are some things that come along in life that I’ve just decided to embrace. And that doesn’t include boxed hair dye.”
Heaton continued, “The people in my life love me no matter what color my hair is. And maybe we could all use a little more of just accepting what is and being grateful.”

Other actresses have recently clapped back at people criticizing how they’ve decided to age including Donna Mills and Rachel Ward.
“I was a catalyst for a conversation that I think people had been challenged by,” Ward said in a clip on Instagram. “Women weren’t allowed to have a wrinkle, weren’t allowed to go gray. Why do we feel we’ve got to pretend that we’re still 40 when we’re 68?”
Heaton previously spoke about aging. In a 2019 interview with Entertainment Tonight, she said she has no intention of slowing down her acting work as she gets older.
“My perfect scenario is…I see death getting nearer and nearer to me and I could die on the soundstage. That’s how I want to go!” the EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND actres joked.
Heaton added, “It’s interesting because I think it’s important at any time of your life to keep challenging yourself.”
While the actress keeps busy with her onscreen work, she also made time for her family — including cooking meals for her husband and four sons.
“When I was working on EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND and THE MIDDLE (playing a mom on both) I didn’t always have time to cook, but I made sure our family ate together, even if it was breakfast at dinner. Pancakes, bacon, eggs, cereal at night. The boys loved that,” she wrote in an essay for Guideposts.
Heaton continued, “Serving others is a holy thing, like Christ washing the feet of his disciples, something [my] Mom understood. As wonderful as it is to say ‘I love you,’ sometimes it’s the meatballs that do the talking. (Thanks, Mom. I got those meatballs from you!) Cooking is my chance to bond with friends and family, to show love to my husband and to our sons. The boys are teenagers now and just mumble at me, but when they take a bite of something I’ve cooked, close their eyes and sigh, I feel like they’re loving me right back.”
Heaton’s response to her critics is a reminder that our personal relationships and fulfilling work are so much more important than our physical appearance.
