HOUSE OF DAVID star Michael Iskander believes that God is infiltrating the entertainment industry, and that’s something to get excited about.
“God is pouring out His Spirit onto media,” Iskander said in a discussion with Crosswalk Headlines.
While the medium is new, God has been doing the same thing in different ways throughout the ages.
“You think about the Renaissance — all the art and all the beauty that came out of that time period was for God,” Iskander said.
He added, “We actually haven’t lived with the Internet that long. I think it’s actually the perfect time for God to step in and say, ‘Hey, I’m wanting to be there for you. I want to be on your screens. I want to be there when you listen to music, when you pray. I want to be surrounding you with my love at every corner of the world, and I’m calling you wherever you are.’ And so I think that’s the ultimate reason for the resurgence.”

For Iskander, playing the role of David has helped him deepen his faith personally.
“It’s changed everything for me,” he said. “Everything about David is pointing to Christ. You read Psalm 22: ‘They pierce my hands and feet, they divide my garments among them, they cast lots.’ All of this language is present in the Old Testament, and through David. So it’s been transformative for me.”
He reflected, “I always say: I felt like I was dead, and now I’m alive. God gave me my heartbeat, He gave me my breath. Not that I wasn’t in the faith already, but I think God is really calling all of us to a deeper love for Him, a deeper conversion, a deeper relationship.”
Iskander concluded, “That’s what God is after — He’s not after anything else except for the heart.”
Iskander’s portrayal of David has inspired his viewers, and Movieguide® awarded him the Grace Award at this year’s 33rd Annual Movieguide® Awards Gala.
“Thank you so much to both @jongunn12 and @jonerwinofficial, @watchwonderproject and @primevideo for taking a chance on me with @houseofdavid,” he posted on Instagram after the win. “I’m on a constant journey with David and I continue to learn so much from him every day! Thank you to my mom for always supporting me through everything. Most importantly, thank you God for leading me to this moment — wherever You call me, I want to go.”
Movieguide®’s most recent review of HOUSE OF DAVID reads, “Episode 208 of HOUSE OF DAVID packs a powerful emotional punch, with exquisite cinematography, sets, costume design, directing, acting, and music. It’s the longest episode with several endings, but it holds viewers’ attention.”
Movieguide® notes, “Episode 208 has a strong biblical, moral worldview, with strong Christological allusions. It extols God, faith, prayer, marriage, family, kindness, repentance, and forgiveness. Like other episodes in HOUSE OF DAVID, Episode 208 has some violence, with a little blood. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for older children, plus younger teenagers.”
Praise God for how He’s using the entertainment industry for His glory.
