HOUSE OF DAVID’s Jon Erwin and Jon Gunn expressed their excitement at audiences’ hunger for “inspirational and faith-based content.”
“It’s just so good to see so many friends that we’ve been doing inspirational and faith-based content for so long together,” Erwin said while attending this year’s Movieguide® Awards. “There’s so many friends in the room…just a tremendous sense of community at the Movieguide® Awards….we’re really grateful that the audience loves the show.”
Gunn said that he’s been making faith-based content for the past 30 years, adding, “You work so hard to make a show or make a movie, and I find it so rewarding when you hear the impact it can have on people…it feels good to know that that story is inspiring people and lifting people.”
“I think we put a lot of time and a lot of thought into developing those kinds of stories and sharing those kinds of stories, so it’s very important and very apparent that this is what audiences are starting to crave,” he concluded.

The pair took home the Faith & Freedom Award® for Television for HOUSE OF DAVID’s Season 2 episode “The Truth Revealed.”
The pair recently spoke to The Christian Post about making HOUSE OF DAVID.
“A lot of the movies we’ve done have been about trying to work up to the ability to tell the story of David,” Erwin said. “I don’t think you can do it as a movie. I think it has to be a series because the life of David is an odyssey. It’s so vast and layered. It was about forming the right team, and Jon was the filmmaker I most wanted to collaborate with because I wanted a level of humanity and authenticity on an epic stage.”
Gunn added, “This is our first foray into television and we just jumped right into it. One of the top priorities for us was figuring out how to not only bring the humanity of the characters; we didn’t just want it to be biblical or epic; we wanted to be human. We want to take these characters and bring them to life in a relatable way. But beyond that, we wanted the biblical accuracy and the historical accuracy.”
A third season of HOUSE OF DAVID has not yet been announced, but Erwin teased more episodes while attending an event for Season 2 of the show.
“There’s a lot to that guy’s life,” he said. “I would say there’s three seasons — this season and the next— that conclude the rise of David, the young story, and there’s the later part of his life.”
Erwin added, “So, I’ve always considered what we’re doing a trilogy and Season 2 is the middle of that trilogy — and Season 3 will continue the rise of that character, and that will get you to the later part of his life. But there’s lots of stories to tell. He lived an epic life.”
HOUSE OF DAVID’s popularity is evidence of viewers’ hunger for inspirational, faith-based content.
