Pastor Greg Laurie and HOUSE OF DAVID director Jon Erwin recently discussed the influence of faith-based stories in the entertainment industry.

“I think what you’re doing, what Dallas Jenkins is doing — we’ve taken a step ahead because you guys are storytellers. That’s really what a movie should be, ultimately, but so many have an agenda,” Laurie said in a YouTube video.

He added, “I think this is sort of the new expression, like music was to the Jesus Movement.”

“We want to reach unexpected people in unexpected places with an unexpected message,” Laurie continued, saying that a show like HOUSE OF DAVID does so by being “a faithful retelling of the story.”

Erwin agreed but clarified, “The Bible is the Bible. Scripture is scripture. This is not scripture. This is a love letter to scripture.”

He touched on the topic in a 2025 interview with Wonder Project, saying, “The goal of what we do is to get people to say, ‘Is that in the Bible?’…and to draw people back to the book. It’s like these shows, hopefully in their purest form of gigantic billboards say, ‘Go to the sword.’  I love that.”

Jenkins, showrunner for THE CHOSEN, was also part of the interview, sharing, “A lot of what we’re trying to do is illuminate capital ‘T’ truth even when we’re not using facts. So sometimes there are things that aren’t directly from scripture. There aren’t even directly from history but we want to make sure that they’re still capital truthful.”

HOUSE OF DAVID has been a hit with audiences, so much so that Amazon Prime recently announced Season 2 will begin streaming soon.

“Today, Prime Video announced the Season Two premiere of HOUSE OF DAVID, the epic biblical drama from Wonder Project and Amazon MGM Studios, will debut on March 27, 2026 globally on the service, with all episodes available to stream at launch,” the streamer announced in a press release.

The release continued, “Season Two of HOUSE OF DAVID continues the story as Israel nears collapse as Saul’s reign falters. David rises from shepherd to warrior, caught between loyalty and destiny, while the Age of Iron transforms warfare. As families fracture, forbidden loves spark, and alliances shift, faith and power collide in a struggle that will decide Israel’s future.”

Erwin’s commitment to balancing accuracy to scripture with telling an entertaining story has made HOUSE OF DAVID a hit with viewers all over the world.
