Kirk Cameron reflected on the Biblical message he found in MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE.

“MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE is back with a new reboot,” he said in an episode of “The Kirk Cameron Show” podcast. “I thought it was really cool that, underneath all the swords, the monsters, the special effects, there is a really important question that the movie asks: what happens when ordinary people are given extraordinary power? And do they have the character to use it?”

MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE, a live-action movie reboot of the popular ’80s cartoon HE-MAN AND THE MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE, tells the story of Prince Adam, who returns to his kingdom of Eternia after 15 years to save his home “and embrace his true destiny as He-Man — the most powerful man in the universe,” per a synopsis.

Cameron described the movie as “a story of good and evil, and coming of age, and embracing responsibility.”

“We know that life is a battle between light and darkness, and it’s also a reflection of the battle that rages inside of every one of our own hearts,” he continued. “This is the great newsflash of the Bible.”

Cameron shared that MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE “seems to say that real strength is not just about biceps and how hard you can hit somebody. It’s also about character and self-control, humility, learning to rely on others, compassion and the ability to serve something bigger than yourself.”

“The strongest man who ever lived is Jesus Christ, and Jesus was not weak,” he continued. “He could raise the dead, but He could also kneel down and wash his disciples’ feet. He would welcome children. He wept at his friend’s tomb. And He could forgive the people who nailed Him to a cross. So, that’s not weakness. That is strength under control, motivated by love.”

In an interview with TODAY, Dolph Lundgren, who also played a live-action version of the hero in a 1987 movie, made similar comments.

“It’s about finding your inner power, it’s about believing in yourself, and it’s done in a very charming way,” he explained

Director Travis Knight added, “It’s a blast. It’s funny. It’s engaging. It’s got great action. It’s got big heart, and it makes you feel things. It has something to say, so it’s got a lot of different elements at play.”

MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE also received a positive review from Movieguide®, which praised the movie for its “strong uplifting moral, redemptive, pro-family content.”

MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE is now playing in theaters.
