Musical artist Ben Fuller believes that God is always speaking — we just have to listen.
“It’s been really honestly a lot of ups and downs. It’s been everything but easy,” he told CBN News of the lessons he’s been learning lately. “I feel like God has been so faithful and so awesome, and so I’ve been riding these really, really high mountain tops.”
Those lows included temporarily breaking up with his now fiancée Peyton, which caused him to process his own commitment issues.
“I was like, ‘Is she the one? Is this right? Am I supposed to do this?’ I’ve always struggled with commitment, and so then all of a sudden, I find myself face down, I’m praying, and the Lord reveals that that Peyton was steady for me, like ‘I put her in your life,'” Fuller explained.
Through the experience, he learned the importance of being still even to hear God’s voice.

“I think once you really get quiet and lean into Him is when you really get instruction,” he said. “You really get those precepts for what he has for you next, and I was guilty. I’d grown weary in doing good. I just gone too hard on doing good. And so, once I finally stopped to listen to Him, is when everything changed, and I really, I really got specific instructions on what was next.”
In 1 Kings 19:11-12, Elijah is listening for God and finds Him only in the stillness. It reads, “Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.”
Fuller continued by encouraging listeners to do the same in their own lives: “Make time for Him, whatever that is — journaling, biking, walking, hiking, reading, what, writing, whatever that is. Just get quiet with Him and listen, because He’s speaking.”
He added, “It’s us that gets in the way, right? I mean…the veil’s already been torn.”
Fuller frequently uses his platform to encourage others in their faith. Recently he shared a photo from his “Black Sheep Tour” with an uplifting caption.
“Hard to put into words what this one has meant. It’s so special to have captured a glimpse of what happens each night on the road. I’m so thankful for the whole team who helped to make this possible,” he wrote. “Praying that these moments bless you and encourage you to call on His name.”
He concluded, “There’s a seat at the table. Jesus loves you, black sheep.”
Let’s all take a moment today to be still and listen to God.
