Samantha Busch shared her vulnerable reflections as she and her two children experienced their first Father’s Day without their husband and father, the late NASCAR legend Kyle Busch.
“This still doesn’t feel real at all. I was up all night thinking about what today should have looked like for Kyle and the kids. The Father’s Day cards that were already made, sitting in a drawer with no one to give them to. Trying to figure out how to navigate a day that should be filled with so much joy for them,” Samantha shared on Instagram alongside video clips of their family.
The video included so many sweet memories of Kyle and his two children, son Brexton, 11, and daughter Lennix, 4. Some were from the racetrack, while others showed glimpses of family time at home, sitting on the couch or picking berries on a farm.
“He was the dad who never missed a chance to be silly, race the kids around the neighborhood, wrap them in his arms or stay up a little longer for one more book, one more question, one more moment,” Samantha reflected. “Nothing made him prouder than being Brexton and Lennix’s dad.”
According to ESPN, Kyle unexpectedly passed away from severe pneumonia, which advanced into sepsis, in May.

“Watching these memories hurts more than I can explain, but they also remind me how lucky we were to have him,” the mother of two said.
She then took a moment to write directly to her late husband.
“Kyle, the kids and I miss you every second of every day. Our hearts ache for you, but it’s more than that,” she said. “Your absence is something we physically feel. Our bodies hurt from missing you, from reaching for someone who isn’t there, from loving someone we can’t hold anymore.”
“I will keep telling your stories, sharing your laughs, and making sure Brexton and Lennix always know just how deeply they were loved by their dad,” Samantha concluded. “Happy Father’s Day. We love you and miss you more than words can say.”
Kyle’s son, Brexton, has a passion and desire to race cars just like his dad did. He raced over the weekend in a field of 115 other drivers.
“Finished 16th out of 115 drivers last night at SIR. Picked up a Heat Race win too. Gotta send it in a lil bit harder on top if I want to take home the win tonight!” Brexton wrote in the caption.
Though navigating their first Father’s Day without Kyle is filled with immense heartache, Samantha and her children continue to honor his memory by treasuring their memories together.
