JESUS REVOLUTION actor Kelsey Grammer is set to host NBC’s THE GREAT AMERICAN JOURNEY.

“To commemorate 250 years of our nation’s independence, Hearst Media Production Group (HMPG) today announced the premiere of THE GREAT AMERICAN JOURNEY on Saturday, Aug. 22,” the press release reads, per PR Newswire.

The series will air on weekend mornings during the network’s “The More You Know” educational/informational programming block but will also be available to stream on Peacock and NBC.com.

According to Variety, THE GREAT AMERICAN JOURNEY “will travel the country celebrating American history and exploring the people, places and ideas that have shaped our nation. The series will examine how the American story continues to evolve and the role each generation plays in defining what comes next.”

“As we celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, this series will showcase the best of America — our culture, institutions, history and enduring spirit of innovation,” Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs Cate Dillon said in the press release.

“We are approaching this commemorative television production with a commitment to storytelling, authenticity and perspective,” Frank Biancuzzo, president of HMPG, added. “We’ve assembled an extraordinary team and want every episode to resonate with audiences in a meaningful and lasting way.”

Grammer will also serve as an executive producer for the series.

The actor is serious about celebrating America this year. He also stars in Angel Studios’ YOUNG WASHINGTON, which debuts in theaters July 3.

“This is our love letter to the country itself and its first founder,” director Jon Erwin said in an interview with The Christian Post alongside actor Grammer. “I hope that we can all put away our arms for a minute and celebrate the story of America together.”

In the movie, Grammer plays George Washington’s mentor, Lord Fairfax. The role allowed the actor to offer a different perspective on Wahsington,

“Well, I’m not sure I ever wanted to do that,” Grammer laughed, revealing he never thought he’d play the role of Washington’s mentor. “It wasn’t on my bucket list of, like, ‘I’ve got to play this guy that was a mentor to George Washington.'”

“When the occasion arose and Jon calls and says, ‘Would you want to take a trip to the moon real quick?’ I said, ‘Yeah, I’d be delighted to. Let’s go ahead,'” he added.

Movieguide® gave YOUNG WASHINGTON a -1 content score. Part of the review says, “YOUNG WASHINGTON has many intense but not gory scenes of war. However, it’s one of the best, most gripping biographical and historical war movies ever made. YOUNG WASHINGTON has a strong moral, patriotic worldview. It stresses justice and fairness.”

For Americans looking to celebrate our country’s history this year, it looks like Grammer has them covered with meaningful, perspective-driven storytelling.
