HGTV star Erin Napier celebrated Mother’s Day last month with the sweetest surprise from her husband, Ben.

“In 1997 my parents bought a brand new Jeep Cherokee Country. Olive green with a tweed interior. We drove it all over America, and in 2002 it became mine because I was playing a lot of shows and needed to haul my amp and guitars,” Napier wrote in a post on Instagram alongside a photo of the Jeep. “In 2004, it got totaled by a driver coming over a blind hill on my side of the road. I was heartbroken. It had a Blind Melon sticker on the back windshield and @countingcrows’ Recovering the Satellites in the CD player.”

“I would still be driving it today if that accident had never happened. Ben has been searching the country for one exactly like it since we met. Many came close, but never the ONE,” she continued.

But Ben’s persistence paid off.

“Until this year for Mother’s Day, he surprised me. It was exactly like mine, with very few miles on it, hiding out in North Carolina. I am 20 again when I drive it. My mama cried a little when I drove up their driveway in it. She said it felt like we went back in time. Now my girls pick the CD we play from my CD books in the backseat,” Erin gushed.

The Napiers love working together, typically on their HGTV show HOME TOWN. But their most recent show, HOME TOWN: INN THIS TOGETHER, put a spin on their usual rhythm.

In the show, which debuted May 10, the Napiers “lean in to help their family and best friends Jim and Mallorie Rasberry and Josh Nowell who plan to restore the dilapidated 1930 Kress building in downtown Laurel” into a a hotel, food venue and storefront, HGTV said.

“…it’s really about how brave and creative and talented our friends are who put everything on the line to save a dead corner of our downtown,” Erin shared on Instagram. “We’ll help them along the way, but they are the stars of this story that you will root for and cheer with and cry with. This show is about the things past generations passed down, adoption and the grasping for legacy, building while facing setbacks, craftsmanship, loss and joy. It deserves awards.”

Tragically, disaster struck just as renovations wrapped up last summer when a fire broke out at the hotel. Thankfully no one was injured, but the crew are still waiting on the insurance claim process to start rebuilding.

Whether its making new memories by renovating old buildings or sharing a little bit of nostalgia with the younger generation, the Napiers remind us that the past is always worth preserving.
