Jonathan Roumie has been blessed to play Jesus on THE CHOSEN and is ready for wherever God leads him next.
“It’s extremely bittersweet,” Roumie said of the close of his time on THE CHOSEN. “It’s been eight years of my life in this role and deepening my relationship with my faith in Christ. So, it’s going to be sad to see it go, but I think the Lord has used it to prepare me for the next phase of my career, whatever that may look like.”
The actor calls it a “miracle” that he’s gotten to play Jesus for seven seasons.
“Words don’t describe like the odds of it me making it through…[It’s] astronomical. It’s like making it to the Olympics,” he told CBN.
Roumie is forever grateful that God gave him this role.
“And the fact that the Lord allowed me an opportunity to break through and be seen and provided me with the talent to sustain the series, it’s just it blows my mind. I’m grateful every day,” he said.

He says his main goal as Jesus has been to share his love.
“For me, as an actor, that begins with relating to my scene partners and everyone around me with a much more open heart, a sense of compassion and kindness,” Roumie said. “When things have the opportunity to upset a person’s balance of peace, which happens often as humans, I try to see it as an opportunity to rise beyond that and practice compassion, patience and humility as often as I can.”
Roumie recently explained that his portrayal of Jesus was one of the most difficult things he has ever had to do.
“For the first few months afterwards going to Mass — and even thinking about it now — I just get weepy. I get emotional. It’s hard,” he explained.
“It’s left an indelible impression on me — mentally and emotionally sharing even just a percentage, a micron of a percentage, of the Lord’s passion; playing it and reenacting it has left me absolutely humbled and moved,” he said earlier this year.
Movieguide® thinks highly of THE CHOSEN and has awarded it multiple Teddy Bear Awards®.
Part of Movieguide®’s review of Season 4 reads, “THE CHOSEN: SEASON 4 EPISODES 4-6 is extremely well done…. The script has inspiring messages, including Jesus calling Himself the Good Shepherd who lays down his life for the sheep. Some story elements are added to the biblical text for dramatic effect, but they don’t take away from the original meaning.”
THE CHOSEN Season 6 comes out this fall.
