Does playing Jesus put extra pressure on Jonathan Roumie to “be good”? The actor recently opened up about how his CHOSEN role positively impacts his behavior and actions off-screen.

“You know, I think being Jesus on a TV show, and you know, when a lot of people, especially in the beginning, when people would recognize me, they didn’t know my name, they would just say ‘Jesus,’” he told Fox News. “So it makes you question if you’re having a bad day, how you allow yourself to have that day in the public.”

The actor admitted, “It keeps you on your toes and has held me accountable spiritually, and just being a better person, and having greater mercy and forgiveness and patience — patience with everybody that I meet and in all my interactions.”

“And of course, I fail on a daily basis,” Roumie continued, “but I get back up, and I just ask Lord to show me what He wants from my life.”

His fans are grateful he uses his platform wisely.

“Jonathan is very humble and he lives it. It is NOT an act,” one commented. Another fan wrote, “Maybe we all need to act like we are representing Jesus.”

In 2024, Roumie talked about the emotional reaction that some fans have had while seeing him in public.

“Some people will literally just start crying. Other people will ask me to pray for them.” he said. “I’ve had people who’ve been suffering with depression, who had brain cancer ask me to lay hands on them, pray for them.”

While we may not star as Jesus on a show, we are all called to reflect Jesus in our daily lives, no matter what. 1 Corinthians 11:1 says, “Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.”

Roumie’s discussion took place while at Trump’s National Mall Prayer Gathering on May 17, 2026, called “Rededicate 250,” a prayer event put on by the Trump administration.

Ahead of the event, Catholic Connect reported, “The daylong gathering will feature an extensive line-up of Christian leaders, worship musicians, political figures, and influencers. Grammy-winning worship artist Chris Tomlin is scheduled to headline the event, while other speakers include Franklin Graham, Pastor Samuel Rodriguez, Paula White-Cain, Bishop Robert Barron and Cardinal Timothy Dolan.”

THE CHOSEN fans are anxiously awaiting Season 6, which will debut Nov. 15, 2026, on Prime Video. It covers the final 24 hours of Jesus’ life, leading up to his crucifixion.
