Former country artist Granger Smith is intentional about centering his marriage to his wife Amber around God.
“One of my prayers I pray every day is, ‘Lord, let our marriage be pleasing to you. May our marriage be pleasing to you,’” he told Fox News Digital recently.
He continued, “I can’t force Amber to act a certain way, just as…None of us could ever, in any relationship, whether it’s work relationship or friend relationship or a marriage, we can’t dictate how the other person responds to us, but we can dictate how we respond to them and how we love them.”
Smith added, “It’s evident — this is a crazy statement I’m about to make — but it’s evident that if two people in a marriage, a husband and wife, drive to please God in a biblical way, then their marriage has a 100% success rate.”

Smith explained how at the end of the day, what matters most is having a marriage that pleases God.
“I want to have a marriage that God is pleased by, not that our pleasing earns God’s approval, but because we were unworthy of His approval in the first place, and yet in His mercy and love, He forgave us through Christ on the cross,” the former country star-turned-pastor explained. “So, I want a marriage that reflects that. I could love Amber in a way that’s merciful and forgiving and loving.”
He added, “If two people do that, then both of you are filling each other in a way that is so fulfilling in the marriage itself.”
Ecclesiastes 4:12 alludes to the importance of having God in your marriage. It reads, “Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”
Faith is central to Smith’s entire family. Previously, he told Fox News how despite giving up being a country artist for pastoral ministry, he still incorporates music into his family life.
“We could sing fun little songs that are just Scripture songs and add a melody to them that’s easy to memorize,” he said. “And so, we started doing that a few years ago. And then, I realized maybe these could be helpful for others, not only kids, but also other people — to be able to think through Scripture and to memorize Scripture in a unique way by singing it.”
He added, “So maybe in the future, there’ll be an album by me released that has Scripture songs.”
No matter what stage of life you’re in, keeping God at the center will make all the difference.
