Yes, that’s right. COCOMELON will soon have its own movie.

Since the show launched on YouTube in 2006, COCOMELON has become unstoppable. There are four series across YouTube and Netflix with multiple seasons.

Parents reported the new movie will premiere on Feb. 19, 2027. Moonbug Entertainment first announced the movie was in development last year. Plot details are under wraps, but the first look shows JJ and his friends as older kids — no longer the diaper-wearing, one-toothed toddlers from the series.

A press release said it will be an “epic adventure” that “invites families to go beyond the world of COCOMELON that they know, following JJ, his friends, and an exciting new cast of characters on a cinematic journey filled with original music and rich storytelling.”

The cast includes SZA, Ego Nwodim, Sarah Sherman, Nicholas Houly, Cristo Fernández, Ike Barinholtz and Rhys Darby as all-new characters, which are yet to be named. Connor Esterson will voice JJ, Camden Brooks will voice Cody, Olivia London Leyva will voice Nina and Aerina DeBoer will voice CeCe.

The Hollywood Reporter noted that KUNG FU PANDA’s Kat Good will direct, and Grammy-nominated songwriter and producer Justin Tranter will executive produce the music for the movie. This could be a hint that the movie will be a musical, like the series are.

“My goal for these new COCOMELON songs is to make them joyful and catchy enough that kids are obsessed, but cool and rich enough that parents are happy to hear them on a loop,” Tranter said.

Deadline reports COCOMELON has had success in over 80 countries and has over 4 billion monthly views on YouTube.

Part of Movieguide®’s review of COCOMELON Season 12 reads, “Unfortunately, episode two features a song that promotes witchcraft as three girls dress up as witches for Halloween. While the first season of COCOMELON LANE, a Netflix exclusive spinoff of the series, was controversial for its inclusion of a same-sex couple who encouraged their son to dance while wearing a tutu, season 12 of COCOMELON avoids the LGBTQ+ topic altogether…Parental discretion is advised.”

Recently, Moonbug took a big step to improve its content so that it is more beneficial for children. It partnered with the Center for Scholars and Storytellers at UCLA, a nonprofit research center that connects Hollywood to academic research.

“To make great stories for young kids, you have to start with how they learn,” said Rich Hickey, chief creative officer at Moonbug Entertainment. “Our teams already think deeply about how toddlers experience music, stories and everyday moments. This partnership with CSS renews that commitment and helps us be even more intentional in how we build stories from the earliest ideas through production.”

In the past, COCOMELON was heavily criticized for being overly stimulating. The new partnership will help Moonbug define learning goals for COCOMELON, which will include social and emotional skills and cognitive and learning skills. Hopefully, those will come through in the movie, too.
