For professional golfer and former NFL running back Danny Woodhead, he knows he can trust that Jesus has a plan for his life.

“I’m more convinced than ever, at 41 years old, that He’s in control of my life,” Woodhead declared on the “Sports Spectrum” podcast. “I’m more in, like, He’s directing my life, even when I kind of think something’s like actually doing a little bit better, He’s like, ‘Let’s go over here.’

The former NFL player continued: “And I’m so thankful for that, because, like, if I was leading my life, it would probably be a mess, and He’s cool enough and loves me enough that He’s like — you know what, it’s almost like I’m on a horse, and I’m trying to steer it, [and] He’s like, ‘No, we’re gonna double ride. You’re actually gonna put your arms around me, and I’m gonna ride the horse, and I’m going to steer it.'”

In 2016, Woodhead joined Pastor Miles McPherson of The Rock Church one weekend to share how he surrenders his life to Christ daily.

“After my college success, I was thinking, ‘Cool, I’m going to get an opportunity to sign with an agent.’ But I didn’t get called to the combine. And I was like, ‘What are we doing, God?'” Woodhead told Pastor McPherson, per The Christian Post.

Woodhead was ultimately signed as a free agent by the New York Jets but unfortunately tore his anterior cruciate ligament before his rookie season.

“I remember in the van going to get my MRI, talking to my wife saying ‘I’m done.’ But then during rehab it felt like God was saying, ‘You’re gonna play,'” he said.

Once he recovered, Woodhead signed with the New England Patriots.

“I probably had the best week of practice of my career. And then in my first game I scored a touchdown on my second carry of like a 38-yard… After I’m like really angry for 3-4 hours a day, God just tells me to surrender. I understood that He was going to take care of us, even when I didn’t have a clue what He was doing. But here I am,” the running back admitted.

“When you don’t know what to do, just give it to Him. It’s the hardest thing to do, but when you do it, you’re never ever alone,” he added.

From that moment on, Woodland would confide in Philippians 4:13, which reads, “I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”

“The only thing I know is that the Bible is the truth,” Woodland told McPherson. “You know what? If it comes from the Bible, I’m good. It means that when life sucks, when it’s a struggle, whatever you’re going through, you’re gonna be cool. Even if you give your struggles to God, there are gonna be tough times. But in the end you got Him, and you know what? You don’t need nothing else.”

Ultimately, Woodhead’s journey from a challenging NFL career to his current life as a professional golfer serves as a powerful testament to the peace and fulfillment found in completely surrendering control to God.
