Jasmine Roth is expecting her third baby! The HGTV star opened up to PEOPLE about the surprise pregnancy.

“It was the Monday after the Super Bowl, and we’d been busy hosting friends and family all weekend,” Roth, best known for the HGTV series HELP! I WRECKED MY HOUSE, among others, recalled. “I was packing for a big family snowboarding trip to Japan and had this thought that maybe I should take a test before we left — just to be safe. And sure enough, it was positive. The lines were super faint, but they were there. I was completely shocked and instantly emotional.”

She was especially shocked due to having issues conceiving in the past, she revealed.

“It took us over a year to get pregnant with our second daughter, Darla, and we needed medical intervention, so a spontaneous pregnancy was the last thing I expected. I immediately ran downstairs to tell my husband, and he had the exact same reaction — total disbelief mixed with excitement,” she said.

Roth and her husband, Brett, share daughters Hazel and Darla.

She continued, “Having two kids already, we both know how much adding another baby changes everything, and I’ll never forget that moment of realizing together, ‘Okay…this is really happening.’ There’s nothing else like that feeling.”

Because the couple was preparing to go on a snowboarding trip, they ended up telling family earlier than they hoped.

“After a long workday, we did the unthinkable and sent a group text to our families. They were not thrilled about finding out that way! But sometimes you just have to roll with the timing life gives you,” she said.

Roth continued, “We spent the rest of the night FaceTiming friends and family until almost midnight. Since moving to Utah, most of our loved ones aren’t local anyway, so FaceTime is kind of our lifeline. The next day, we told Hazel, who had just turned 5, and she was absolutely adorable about it. She’s so excited to be a big sister again.”

Roth explained how the first trimester of her pregnancy was similar to her previous two pregnancies — “constant nausea, feeling underwater all day long, totally exhausted.”

Although Roth hasn’t announced a gender or a name, she shared her and her husband’s two rules regarding baby names.

“We’ve followed two rules with our girls’ names, and I stand by them. First, the name must be phonetic and relatively straightforward to spell. If there are five different spellings, it’s probably out. Hazel and Darla both passed that test,” she said.

She continued, “The second is what we call ‘The Supreme Court Test’ — basically, the name must sound believable for someone sitting on the Supreme Court someday. It’s been especially helpful because our oldest is currently lobbying hard for the name ‘Cupcake.'”

Recently, Roth reflected on motherhood on Instagram.

The truth about motherhood is that while technically you become a mom overnight, just like happiness, a mother is actually built piece by piece,” she said. “Motherhood is a journey, built in the moments nobody else sees. It’s a deep and silent transformation that most of us don’t even realize we’re going through.”

We’re excited for Roth and her family as they get ready to welcome their new addition!
