THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RINGS OF POWER Season 3 will come out on Prime Video on Nov. 7.
The new season jumps forward years after Season 2 “at the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron, as the Dark Lord seeks to craft the One Ring that will give him the edge he needs to win the war, bind all peoples to his will – and at last rule all Middle-earth,” Prime Video said.
After Season 3, there will be two more seasons for a total of five, Crosswalk reported. Production on Season 3 wrapped in December of 2025.
“From the very beginning, this series has embodied the scale, ambition, and cinematic storytelling that define Prime Video’s biggest global series,” said Peter Friedlander, head of global television for Amazon MGM Studios. “The extraordinary response from millions of fans around the world has made it clear that this journey through Middle-earth continues to resonate, and that momentum has only grown heading into Season 3.”
The Hollywood Reporter said the new season will be created by showrunners and executive producers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay. Other EPs are Lindsey Weber, Justin Doble, Kate Hazell and director Charlotte Brandstrom. Matthew Penry-Davey will produce, while Ally O’Leary, Tim Keene and Andrew Lee co-produce. The series will be produced by Amazon MGM Studios.
Polygon notes that the new series will pick up in an era when “everything is on fire” as Sauron launches a villainous campaign across the elves’ Eregion. The era spreads across years, but apparently, it will be sped up for filmmaking reasons.
The first episode debuts on Nov. 7, with seven more episodes to gradually follow. The first two seasons had over 185 million viewers across 240 countries and territories, Amazon said. The company credits the series for driving its subscriber numbers.
HBO’s HARRY POTTER series debuts on Dec. 25, which will likely give this LORD OF THE RINGS series a run for its money. Both shows are said to have infamously high production costs, Screen Rant observed.
New cast members in Season 3 are Andrew Richardson, Jamie Campbell Bower, Eddie Marsan, Adam Young and Zubin Varla, Showbiz Junkies reported.
Part of Movieguide®’s -1 review of THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RINGS OF POWER Season 2 Episode 5 reads, “Episode Five neatly brings out the Christian, biblical, moral themes in LORD OF THE RINGS. For example, it warns viewers that power tends to corrupt but urges them to courageously oppose evil with faith and values. There’s even a scene in Episode Five that warns against power-hungry rulers and higher taxes.”
Hopefully Season 3 carries on those moral themes.
