Dolly Parton stopped in to look at her new Dolly’s Tennessean Travel Stop during its grand opening Wednesday, despite a recent battle with health issues.
“I’m sure some of you are wondering why I wanted a truck stop. Well, I couldn’t leave it to beavers,” she said, referring to popular gas station chain Buc-ee’s.
Just two months ago, Parton cancelled her Las Vegas residency due to health challenges, ABC News reported.
On May 4, she said she need some time to get her health back in shape in order to perform again. Parton also missed her 80th birthday celebration at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville in January, Entertainment Weekly reported.
“My immune system and my digestive system got all out of whack over the past couple, three years, and they’re working real hard on rebuilding [and] strengthening those, and hopefully I’ll be up to snuff again soon,” Parton said in part in a video at the time.
Parton’s travel stop offers guests more that gas and restrooms — it has a coffee shop, a replica of Parton’s tour bus, murals, a dog park, a BBQ joint and more.

“Located at exit 22 off I-65, guests can enjoy DLY BBQ, a fresh cup of Dolly’s Cup of Ambition Coffee, custom merch and a full-service restaurant, all inspired by the spirit of the open road,” an Instagram post for the Travel Stop reads.
It’s the first of several Tennessean Travel Stops to come.
“A true gathering place for both travelers and the local community, the travel stop is the first of many planned locations, born from the partnership between global superstar Dolly Parton and her manager Danny Nozell, and Gregory H. Sachs, who has owned and operated the trusted Tennessean Travel Stop brand since 2017,” Dolly’s Travel Stops website said. “Inspired by Dolly’s lifelong connection to the open road, from her childhood in the hills of East Tennessee to decades spent touring the world by bus, the venture reimagines what a roadside stop can be.”
Parton also launched a coffee brand with Community Coffee called Cup of Ambition. Her normal roast is available now, and a whole portfolio of flavors will eventually be available in her new coffee shop at the stop.
Parton said after the opening, “Well, the doors are open and I could not be prouder. Whether you are hauling loads, hauling the family, or just passing through, we built this place for you. Good food, real rest, a little music and people who are genuinely glad you stopped in…that’s what the road has always deserved, and that is what you will find here. Welcome home.”
If you’re traveling through Tennessee this summer, you’ll probably want to make a break at Dolly’s Tennessean Travel Stop.
