What to Watch: Feel-Good Family Movies for Mother’s Day

THE WILD ROBOT is an incredibly heartfelt, entertaining, humorous animated story about a robot falling in a storm from a plane and eventually having to take care of a young, orphaned gosling on an isolated island. WILD ROBOT is a very strong, adorable affirmation of a mother’s love and of kindness being a virtue, with strong elements of a Christological allegory.

In the remake of THE PARENT TRAP, Little Hallie Parker and Annie James (both played by newcomer, Lindsay Lohan) meet at camp and slowly discover that they are identical twins, separated at birth. Their job is to trick their parents into getting back together. Despite some pranks and a few exclamations, this movie is very moral, with a strong Christian worldview that extols family values.

THE INCREDIBLES is another incredible animated movie from Pixar and Disney, about two retired superhero parents who must battle a villain targeting their family. Beautifully animated, THE INCREDIBLES is full of exciting energy, fantastic fun, and humorous hilarity, with a very strong redemptive, Christian worldview full of many positive moral messages.

THE PRINCESS DIARIES is a G-rated modern fairy tale about a teenage girl in San Francisco who finds out that she is heir to the throne of a small European nation. THE PRINCESS DIARIES is a wonderful, wholesome filmmaking gem, a movie that children and young teenagers should want to see over and over.

In ENCHANTED, an animated heroine is pushed down a well into the cruel, uncaring real world of New York City, where she finds her real love. ENCHANTED turns the archetypal fairy tale story inside out in a delightful, positive, morally worthwhile way.

In PADDINGTON 2, Paddington the Bear is falsely accused of stealing, so the Brown family has to solve the mystery and fight to get him out of jail. PADDINGTON 2 is a funny, loveable, highly entertaining family movie with a strong moral worldview.

MOMS’ NIGHT OUT is a comedy about three mothers who leave their children with their husbands while they go out for a “Moms’ Night”and the chaos that ensues. MOMS’ NIGHT OUT is fairly entertaining and has an uplifting message of motherhood, infused with a Christian worldview, with some questionable elements requiring caution.
