Christian country singer Anne Wilson shared an emotional new song with fans, inspired by the recent death of a friend.
“In February of this year, I lost a really sweet friend of mine,” she said in an Instagram video. “She passed away unexpectedly, and it was so heart-wrenching walking through that time. There were so many questions, so many moments of struggle and wrestling of why God and why Carly, 22 years old, so young, leaving behind beautiful parents and a brother.”
Wilson shared that this time in her life “taught me so much about Jesus and His kindness and His grace and His preciousness…in the midst of that whole time.”

“It was such an interesting time in my life, and so I ended up writing a song a couple days after she passed away that means so much to me,” she continued. “The song is really, really, really personal and I’ve waited to share it on social media until I felt like it was the right time, so I wanted to share it with y’all now. This song was written about my sweet, precious friend Carly. It’s called ‘Me & Jesus.’”
Wilson has previously spoken about her own struggles with grief, particularly the death of her older brother, Jacob, in 2017 when she was 15 years old.
“My life forever changed in that moment,” she told GRAMMY.com in a 2024 interview. “I already knew that life was very short on this side and that we only have a small window of time here so I wanted to make mine count. It was a special, but really hard moment that has gone on to spawn my entire career. Hearing just how much my songs have impacted fans makes me feel like his tragedy wasn’t wasted and that it was used for good.”
While Wilson has found crossover success in the world of country music, she recently told Fox News that speaking publicly about her faith has cost her job opportunities.
“I’ve missed a lot of opportunities for speaking about my faith,” she explained. “I think it’s definitely come at a cost, but I’m the kind of person that I’m very bold in the things I believe in. When I stand for something, I’m going to stand for it knowing the cost.”
The artist continued, “There were moments early on when even my manager and team would be like, ‘Anne, do you know what you’re doing by saying this?’ Or, ‘Do you know what could happen if you speak about this?’ And I would always say, ‘Yeah, I do, but I want to do it anyway.’”
Wilson’s new song is a reminder of how strongly she relies on her faith to get her through the hardest of times — and an encouragement to her listeners to cultivate their own relationship with God.
