Anne Wilson’s new book, Rebel: Following Jesus When the World Walks the Other Way, explains how she feels about her journey with Christ.
Rebellion is a theme that goes back to Wilson’s 2024 album.
“I realized I had so much more to say than what I could fit into a three-minute song,” Wilson told The Christian Post this month. “The whole topic is really about what it means to live as a Christian in today’s world, to stand for the gospel, to be bold in your faith and to take a stand for what you believe in.”
As Wilson witnessed confusion among her generation and dissension run rampant, she wanted to share what following Christ can look like.
“It’s about obedience,” she said. “There have definitely been times in the music industry and through my career where I’ve had to really go, ‘OK, I’m going to trust God on this one.’ There might be a consequence to that, but most of the time it’s been me standing up and Jesus blessing it.”
For her, rebellion means doing the right thing.
“I’m not going to compromise my faith to fit country, and I’m not going to compromise my sound to fit Christian radio,” Wilson said. “This is who I am. I love Jesus. I love country music. I’m going to do both.”

Part of her book’s description reads, “Rebel isn’t a book about rebellion for rebellion’s sake — it’s a practical guide for stepping out of the shadows and living boldly for Christ, especially when the world doesn’t understand or even pushes back.”
Ultimately, she only cares what God thinks.
“It looks like putting Jesus first above all the opinions or asks of other people,” Wilson said. “There might be opportunities that would require me to weaken my faith or not say as much about Jesus. Being a rebel means choosing God over people.”
It wasn’t until after her brother’s sudden death that she knew she had to trust God and forget about what others think.
“Once I decided to trust God and I physically watched with my own two eyes what God did with my trust, I don’t think I could ever go back to a place of not trusting Him,” Wilson said.
In her book, she also addresses comparison struggles — we should be how God wants us to be, not what the world wants.
“You were uniquely made in His image, on purpose, for a purpose. My prayer is that this book encourages you to keep your eyes on Him and walk boldly in who He created you to be,” the singer told her Instagram followers.
Wilson just wants to represent Christ, no matter what she does or what project she takes on. She believes her voice and career are given by God, but music is not her only medium.
