French soccer club Paris Saint-Germain took home the UEFA Champions League trophy on Saturday when PSG beat Arsenal in penalty kicks 4-3.
After the game, PSG’s Désiré Nonka-Maho Doué couldn’t help but credit the Lord for the incredible win.
“I thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. That’s what my prayer was — to win the Champions League again,” he said after the match, per Christhlete.
In the full interview, Doué told TNT Sports Football, “We are so so proud tonight. So happy, so grateful, also because it was a tough game against a very good team. So we have to congratulate them because they had a really good season. But now we just have to celebrate as a team, as a family, because I think we deserve it. We deserve it. Look at the crowd. Look at our family. We just want to say thank you.”

During the game, Doué stepped up to take a penalty kick for PSG. When asked how he felt in the moment, the midfielder said he remained calm as “it’s part of my job.”
“I try to stay calm every penalty I have to take and tonight I scored. So this is amazing,” he said.
Doué was then asked if he thinks this PSG team is one of the “best this competition has seen.”
“I don’t know. But we have to stay humble also. It’s crazy. We’re going to enjoy first and after we’re going to work again because we want more. We want more. We are really hungry. We are a young team, and we know we are really ambitious. So next season we have to go again,” he concluded.
In just the fifth minute, Arsenal scored to start the match up 1-0. But then PSG took control of the match and commanded 72% of the possessions and took 19 shots compared to Arsenal’s five, the Olympics reported.
After the match ended 1-1 through extra time, the game was headed into a penalty shootout, where PSG beat Arsenal 4-3 to win the match and the Champions League.
“Today is an amazing history day,” Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi told TNT Sports. “Last year, back-to-back, it’s not easy; the Champions League is difficult. So proud of the team, of the coach, of the staff, of the fans. Everybody doubted us again, but thank god we made it, and we believed.”
PSG’s thrilling Champions League victory showcased both the relentless ambition of their young squad and the grounded, faithful perspective of key players like Désiré Doué.
