Soccer Star Celebrates Baptism: ‘The New is Here’

Aston Villa’s Diego Carlos has made the next bold step in his Christian walk by proclaiming his faith through baptism!
“I experienced one of the most important moments of my life by being baptized. The joy of fulfilling God’s promises is immense,” the soccer player posted on Instagram.
“‘Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!’ – 2 Corinthians 5:17,” he captioned along with a video of his baptism.
The center back added in the comments of a repost of his video, “This was the day God chose for my rebirth!”
Carlos’ wife, Naiara Carlos, also is open about her faith and recently shared a video of her washing the feet of her husband as Jesus washed the feet of his disciples.
“A man’s love for a woman is much deeper and truer when God comes first in the couple’s life,” Naiara wrote. “Today I know how good it is to know that there is someone to love and feel affection with expression of that love, especially if it is true and based on a promise of loyalty and respect from the two who love each other and want to make that love an example of relationship nourished by God’s love in our lives.”
Carlos along with his team made it to the semifinals in the European Championship this spring but lost to the Greek Olympiacos team.
The gold medalist shared his disappointment for not making the finals, which would have been the first time for Villa since 1982, but shared hopes for next season.
“Although sadness accompanies us after the loss in the semifinal, we look back with pride for having come so close,” Carlos posted. “It’s a moment of reflection and gratitude for the tireless commitment of the entire team. But, as true warriors, we now turn the page and focus our gaze on new goals this season. Together, we are stronger.”
