Al Robertson, son of DUCK DYNASTY patriarch Phil Robertson, and wife Lisa point to their faith as the reason their marriage has stayed strong.

“When unfaithfulness happens in a marriage, so many times, that’s the end of it, but it doesn’t have to be,” he told Fox News. “Everything can be worked through.”

Al knows from experience; he and Lisa overcame her infidelity through their love for each other and their faith in God.

“I had prayed all through this affair that God would open a door for me to walk away and that nobody would ever find out because I didn’t want to hurt Alan,” Lisa said of her affair. “I didn’t want to hurt our family. [But] I didn’t think [our marriage] would make it. If he ever found out, I just knew that it was over.”

The couple agreed to separate, but Lisa still wanted to save her marriage. One night, she went into her backyard and called out to God, praying for forgiveness.

“Once I turned my life over to the Lord, out in the backyard, when I finally called out to God, He came and met me right there in the backyard,” she shared. “From that day forward, I think I knew I could make it because I’d never called on Him before. I’d never asked for His help and asked Him to rescue me. [But] He came, and He rescued me. I think that was the most important thing I did.”

She and Al eventually rekindled their relationship, with Al saying, “It was obvious to me from talking to friends who were with her that she wanted this marriage to stay together. She was very sorry for what had happened. She had finally come to a reckoning in her own life.”

“I think out of my own appreciation for not only what God had done for me, but also what Lisa had done for me, it gave me that capacity to forgive infidelity,” he continued. “Her growth as a person and as a Christian in those early weeks is what won me over to say, ‘If she has the capacity to change who she is, like I did many years earlier, then I have the capacity to forgive as God forgives.’ That’s when it all changed. We knew we were going to find our way back together.”

In an episode of the “WHOA That’s Good” podcast, Al said that, despite their struggles, they “wouldn’t change anything” about their story.

“As much as we regret sinful behavior, I wouldn’t — if I could go back — I wouldn’t change anything because the last years of what we’ve been able to experience as a married couple and as a couple who have found bread like a beggar and offering it to somebody else, we wouldn’t change it,” he said

The Robertsons’ love story was recently brought to the screen in Lifetime’s FAITH & FORGIVENESS: A DUCK DYNASTY LOVE STORY.

“[The movie] is based on a powerful true story about a love tested, broken, and ultimately rebuilt,” a press release about the movie states. “Starring [Haley] Ramm and [Luke] Benward, the movie follows two people finding their way back to each other, discovering that real love isn’t perfect… It’s a choice made every single day.”

Al and Lisa’s story is proof that faith can see us through even the hardest of times.
