Wait, did Tim Allen just reveal a major SHIFTING GEARS Season 3 spoiler?

“I just saw Jenna [Elfman, who plays Allen’s character’s love interest, Eve],” he told Us Weekly. “We went to see No Doubt with a whole group of people at The Sphere in Vegas. She said, ‘Now this is gonna only work for them if I can do eight episodes with you.’ And I said, ‘…I’m glad that you said this.’”

This seemingly confirms the on-again, off-again couple who left things up in the air at the end of Season 2 will get back together in the next season.

Allen confirmed this, saying, “I love doing the show, and I love what we’ve got. I’m amazed that they’re able to do this. But they’ve got it set up that [Elfman will] be in most of the season.”

“She’s so fun to be around, and it’s brought out a whole different part of the show. It brought a different audience to that show,” he continued. “You’ve got romance for the people that want that on the show, and it turns out the flirting and the actual activity between these two characters is working.”

Allen wasn’t the only one with loose lips when it came to his character’s relationship status. Earlier this year, Elfman revealed at the Fox Upfronts that she was preparing to “go play on SHIFTING GEARS.”

Allen and Elfman’s characters aren’t the only ones who will be dealing with romantic upheaval in Season 3. Showrunner Michelle Nader talked to Us Weekly about Riley (Kat Dennings)’s love triangle with longtime friend Gabe (Seann William Scott) and newcomer Andy (Jesse Williams).

Nader explained that the long term plan was always that Riley and Gabe were “destined to be together,” adding, “the idea was that she and Andy were going to break up.”

“Then it was just like, ‘Oh my ***, Jesse Williams is so funny.’ So I was like, ‘What are we doing?’” she said. “Now we don’t know. We don’t know who she should be with. That’s the story now. It was very much happening in real time for us.”

Nader continued, “I obviously want to continue the love triangle with Jesse, Seann and Kat. I obviously want to bring Eve back. But there are — I can’t say right now — but there’s going to be something I’m hooking up that I’ve already talked to the writers about. It is another potential bombshell of a person to come into their life.”

Fans have a little while longer to wait for these romantic plotlines to unfold; SHIFTING GEARS Season 3 is expected out in 2027.
