BATMAN fans thought they guessed what role Sebastian Stan will be playing in the upcoming sequel, but do they have it wrong?

“Reports teased him taking on a new version of Harvey Dent in THE BATMAN — PART II,” MovieWeb reported, adding, “[But] a new report seems to switch some things around. According to a new rumor from insider Jeff Sneider (via The InSneider), Sebastian Stan is set to play Victor Zsasz in Matt Reeves’ THE BATMAN — PART II instead of Harvey Dent.”

Zsasz is a brutal and bloodthirsty serial killer. The character previously appeared in 2005’s BATMAN BEGINS, 2020’s BIRDS OF PREY and popular TV show GOTHAM.

Along with Stan, Scarlett Johansson and Brian Tyree Henry will also join the BATMAN universe, alongside returning actors Robert Pattinson, Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis and Colin Farrell.

“I can say this much, we’ve been rehearsing here in London, we start filming next Monday, the 15th,” Wright, who plays Detective Jim Gordon, said on an episode of the “Bingeworthy” podcast. “And it’s been a joy to be back together with [Pattinson, who plays Batman] and to remember this kind of vibe that we found together, and we kind of just picked it up pretty much instantly again.”

The actor continued, “I can say this, and I can’t say much, Matt Reeves [writer and director on THE BATMAN and THE BATMAN — PART II] has written an absolutely insanely brilliant script. We start to dive in in a couple of days.”

Farrell, who played crime boss the Penguin in THE BATMAN and HBO series THE PENGUIN, also teased the movie’s production, telling Collider, “I will go fly to London in four or five weeks. I haven’t got much to do on it, but I’ll go for four or five weeks. I’ll be there for a few weeks. I’m so excited to see it as a fan.”

He called THE BATMAN — PART II’s script “extraordinary,” adding, “Matt is just so brilliant, and he just cares so deeply about the stories he tells.”

During an appearance on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, Farrell shared, “I really do think [the script is] a masterwork. Kind of a contemporary genre masterwork. It’s so brilliant, and Robert has got such a lovely journey to go on and take the audience through.”

He continued, “It’s dense, it’s really really intelligent, it’s so deep and detailed. I’m saying too much. I think [Reeve’s] going to make an extraordinary film.”

While Movieguide® praised THE BATMAN for its “strong redemptive, morally uplifting worldview,” the movie’s crew would do well to remember that audiences prefer movies that emphasize these themes but do not contain excessive violence or foul language.

THE BATMAN — PART II is expected to hit theaters in October 2027.
