Behind the Scenes of X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE: This Time It's Personal for Actor Hugh Jackman
May 02, 2009

By Dr. Tom Snyder, Editor This time it's personal! That was actor Hugh Jackman's attitude toward his new action movie, X-MEN ORIGINS:  WOLVERINE, where he stars as Logan, aka Wolverine, the most popular member of the X-Men team of mutant superheroes, and serves as a producer. "This movie has a different dimension as a producer," he said in a press conference attended by MOVIEGUIDE®. "In that way, I feel it's more personal. It's more my baby." To prove his point, Jackman noted that it was he who asked Gavin Hood, the South African born director of the acclaimed movie TSOTSI, to direct WOLVERINE. Also, he said he found himself the other day asking everyone what they thought about the movie and was more "nervous" than usual about their a...

FBI Closes In on Who Pirated WOLVERINE Movie, Director Says
May 02, 2009

Director Gavin Hood of X-MEN ORIGINS:  WOLVERINE, the first summer season blockbuster, said the FBI is closing in on who pirated an unfinished copy of the movie and posted it on the Internet. They know the location of the pirating, Hood said at a press conference attended by MOVIEGUIDE®, but they don't know the who. "It was really quite stressful, to put it bluntly," Hood told journalists about the theft before a recent press screening of the movie. "It was devastating for me when it happened." To combat the effects of the theft, Hood said they are putting different scenes from the future DVD release of the movie at the end of the credits into different prints at different theaters. "I'm thrilled that it's finally out there in the for...

Current High Court Rules in Favor of Decency on TV
May 02, 2009

The U.S. Supreme Court announced April 28 that it voted 5-4 to support the FCC's new rules banning unplanned "fleeting expletives" on network television, such as the use of the "f" word by U2 singer Bono on the 2003 Golden Globes show. More and more viewers have complained in recent years about such unplanned obscenity and pornography, including Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction" at the Super Bowl. The FCC under President George W. Bush took a strict attitude toward such violations of the laws governing the public airwaves, but that policy may change with President Barack Obama's liberal nomination of Julius Genachowski as the new FCC chairman. Be that as it may, the liberal members of the Supreme Court obviously don't mind the prove...

Defending the Christian Faith and Faithful
April 29, 2009

By Dr. Ted Baehr, Publisher The tragic church shooting and death of Reverend Fred Winters, pastor of First Baptist Church, Maryville Illinois, has once again raised one of the most under-reported issues within the media today: violence directed at Christians and churches. While the recent church shooting in Illinois this March did receive some coverage, the full extent of church violence has not been adequately discussed. If this kind of event had happened at a Mosque or Synagogue there would have been non-stop media coverage and a cry for "hate crime" prosecution. Because it only happened to a Christian there is little outcry. The Christian Anti-Defamation Commission has compiled a partial list of recent church shootings: February 18, ...

Forget What Anyone Else Says! How Does Jesus Christ Define Marriage?
April 29, 2009

By Dr. Ted Baehr, Publisher, and Dr. Tom Snyder, Editor For the first time in recorded history, our government is trying to change a fundamental social institution and tradition - marriage. Thus, in recent months, courts in Massachusetts, California and Iowa, and now the legislature of Vermont, have decided to allow same-sex marriage. Forget for a moment the fact that no other society in human history has ever defined marriage in this way and the fact that the United States Constitution does not give such power to the judiciary or our elected representatives, what does Jesus say about marriage? In Matthew 19:4-6, Jesus says that marriage is for a man and a woman. "Haven't you read," he says, referring to the Book of Genesis, "that at t...

The Mass Media of Entertainment's Threat to Homeland Security
April 28, 2009

By Dr. Ted Baehr, Publisher, and David Outten, Production Editor Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano says that she stands by an intelligence report warning about the danger of "rightwing extremists" motivating people to violence. Where is the Homeland Security Report on the threat posed by some filmmakers? Again and again, news reports have shown that mass murderers were inspired by violent movies. To single out so-called "rightwing extremists" while ignoring the impact of the mass media of entertainment smacks of using Homeland Security to monitor the activity of anyone opposing the current administration and its policies. The report says, "Many rightwing extremists are antagonistic toward the new presidential administration a...

Angels, Demons and Poseurs: The Irrational Lies Behind Dan Brown's ANGELS & DEMONS
April 24, 2009

By Dr. Ted Baehr, Publisher, with Dr. Tom Snyder, Editor Reading Dan Brown's ANGELS AND DEMONS in preparation for the May release of the movie by the same name is an excruciating task. Not just because page after page wrongfully attacks the church, but more so because he gets his history and his facts wrong, yet pretends to be intellectually astute. G.K. Chesterton once said that, if a man doesn't reason from first principles, he will go mad. Dan Brown's ANGELS & DEMONS lacks a principled approach to history, science and religion, and therefore spreads lies and half-truths that have been circulating in the occult world for the last hundred years. Forty years ago, people knew that these were lies. They understood that the Middle East ...

Hollywood Blockheads Mock Traditional Marriage
April 24, 2009

In the wake of the vicious homosexual attacks on Miss California Carrie Prejean's personal opposition to same-sex marriage at the recent Miss USA Pageant, a group of Hollywood celebrities have made a video mocking traditional marriage and its supporters. Stars such as Allicia Silverstone, Lance Bass, George Takei, and Sophia Bush released the mocking video in the FunnyorDie website. Of course, Jesus Christ Himself confirms that God defines marriage as a sacred institution for one man and one woman in Matthew 19:3-12. Other passages in the Hebrew Scriptures, including the Five Books of Moses, and the New Testament condemn homosexuality as abhorrent. Please help MOVIEGUIDE® redeem the values of the mass media according to biblical princip...
