“Active” Christians spend 66% more on Christian books than do “Professing,” “Private,” “Liturgical,” and “Cultural” Christians combined. They also buy 63% of their books on impulse, and more of them at Christian retail stores than any other retail outlet.
Small groups in large churches are fast becoming the way in which Christians relate to one another, and to the world, through their faith, according to one expert.
“Megachurches are creating around them structures and especially functions that once were done by the denominations,” says Scott Thumma, author of BEYOND MEGACHURCH MYTHS and Hartford Seminary professor. “They are creating alternative ways for churches and for religious people to get resources to do ministry, to do missions, to connect with other churches.”
This could mean that the best way to reach the Christian audience today is through small groups.
A team of researchers from Child Trends, a nonpartisan research center, reports, “Family structure clearly matters for children, and the family structure that helps children the most is a family headed by two biological parents in a low-conflict marriage.”

A UCLA Higher Education Research Institute study finds the percentage of college students who never attend religious services nearly doubles from the time they enter college until their junior year.
The reason, according to researchers, isn’t indoctrination by faculty but the influence of fellow students. And at most colleges, liberal peer groups are more common than conservative ones.
The mass media can play a major role in influencing those peer groups, as countless scientific studies have shown.

New studies of children age 9 to 12 and 12 to 18 in the United States and Japan proves that violent video games make children more likely to be hostile, aggressive and get into fights.
“One can no longer claim this is somehow a uniquely American phenomenon,” said Craig A. Anderson, a psychology professor at Iowa State University and director of its Center for the Study of Violence. “This is a general phenomenon that occurs across cultures.
“We now have conclusive evidence that playing violent video games has harmful effects on children and adolescents,” he concluded.
The studies accounted for gender and previous aggression in their research.

“Whoever says he is in the light and hates his brother is still in darkness. Whoever loves his brother lives in the light, and there is nothing in him to make him stumble. But, whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.”
