BLUEY’s ‘The Sign’ is Most-Watched Episode on Disney+

By Movieguide® Contributor

Recent BLUEY special “The Sign” is now the most-watched episode of the show on Disney+.

The Hollywood Reporter noted that the episode has racked up 10.4 million views worldwide in the week after its release, adding, “That’s the biggest tune-in for any BLUEY episode — or that of any other Disney Junior show — on Disney+.”

Part of Movieguide®’s review of “The Sign” reads:

Episode 49: “The Sign” has two main storylines. The first storyline is Bluey and her family as they adjust to the idea of moving away from their home in Queensland. The other is saving the wedding of Bluey’s Uncle Rad and her godmother Frisky…“The Sign” is about trusting in a divine plan even when life doesn’t go your way. Thus, both episodes have strong moral worldviews. “Ghostbasket” and “The Sign” are a delight for children of all ages, including parents and grandparents.

The massive recent success of BLUEY is no surprise. Variety called the children’s show “a smash hit on streaming,” reporting that it ranked “as the second most-streamed show of 2023 according to the Nielsen rankings, with 43.9 billion minutes viewed.”

BLUEY’S creator, Joe Brumm, has spoken about viewer’s emotional connections to certain episodes, telling Deadline, “Most of the episodes that have cut through with adults are based on something real.”

“Usually they’re related to something I’ve learned having kids, or my wife has experienced or just something I notice that my kids keep doing,” he continued. “An episode really wouldn’t start until I’d found a bit of truth like that. I wouldn’t necessarily understand it and often the episode is an exploration of that.”

Brumm concluded, “That’s why kids and adults see themselves reflected in it. You love your children to death and they change you completely. They pull your insides out. You’ll cry so much more as parents, but there is so much more reward and meaning.”

Movieguide® previously reported on “The Sign”:

Children’s show BLUEY debuted its Season 3 special, “The Sign,” on April 14, and its fans—young and old—are in tears.

“Following on from last week’s cliffhanger, ‘The Sign’ sees the Heelers and their friends and family preparing for a backyard wedding at their house,” Mashable reported. “It seems Uncle Rad (voiced by Patrick Brammall) and Bluey’s godmother Frisky (voiced by Claudia O’Doherty) have gotten on very well since they first met in Season 2 episode “Double Babysitter,” and are now ready to walk down the aisle together.”

“Unfortunately, the joyful occasion is overshadowed by Bluey’s sadness at the Heelers’ plans to leave their beloved Brisbane home. Bandit aka Dad (voiced by David McCormack) has gotten a higher paying job which he believes will let him give the kids a better life, but it requires relocating to a different city…”

“However, just as he’s about to join his family, Bandit receives a call from their real estate agent Bucky (voiced by Rove McManus). Though we don’t hear it, it’s clear what’s happening: The buyers have pulled out at the very last minute, offering the Heelers’ one last chance to turn back.”

Bandit takes the “Sold” sticker off the sign and then throws the sign on the street. The dad’s anxiety disappears as his family joins him in a group hug, and then the family races inside and celebrates their choice to stay.
