Jonathan Scott shared his new twist on a home renovation show, REVERSE RENOVATIONS, but what’s the real story?

“Welcome to REVERSE RENOVATIONS, where we completely remove safety standards from homes nationwide,” he said in a recent Instagram video. “I’m your host, Jonathan Scott. Let’s get ready to flip those safety standards.”

Jonathan then begins ripping out ceiling fans, bashing in air vents, removing carbon monoxide alarms, smashing windows, removing sink pipes and making a mess.

But the video ends with a serious message from the HGTV star.

“In a world without safety standards, this could be your reality,” Jonathan said, pointing at the wreckage around him. “Support codes in your community.”

He then directed viewers to the National Fire Protection Association website where they can learn more about the importance of these safety codes.

“NFPA develops roughly 300 codes and standards that serve as the foundation for fire, electrical, and life safety across the globe,” their website reads. “These documents are not arbitrary; they are the product of a rigorous, transparent, and consensus-driven process grounded in real-world expertise.”

The site continues, “By drawing on the knowledge of professionals across a wide spectrum, the NFPA standards development process offers a way to establish codes that are both technically robust, practically applicable — and most importantly — created to help protect lives and property from fire and other hazards.”

While REVERSE RENOVATIONS might not be a real show, Scott does have a new project getting ready for premiere: CHASING THE WEST, a new reality show made in partnership with his brother Drew Scott.

The show helps families looking to move out of the city find the ranch of their dreams — and figure out how to acclimate to a more rural lifestyle.

“We learned a lot over the years from being on a ranch and the hard work that it takes,” Drew told PEOPLE. “But all these homeowners that we’re dealing with, they were oblivious. They thought it would just be a dream to leave the hectic, busy pace of the city and have a relaxing life on a ranch. No, it’s hard work. So we really were that wake-up call.”

Jonathan added, “When you live in the city and you don’t have a bunch of land, that is appealing. The more land you get, the more expensive it is to maintain. And I remember whether it was mending fences or catching cattle that escaped — that was so much work.”

While some fans might be disappointed to learn that REVERSE RENOVATIONS won’t be happening after all, Property Brothers fans luckily won’t have long to wait for the premiere of CHASING THE WEST, airing July 30 on HGTV.
