Jonathan Roumie reminisced about the incredible journey it’s been to be part of THE CHOSEN.

In a post to Instagram, he shared a vlog-style video he made almost a decade ago before he filmed Season 1.

“Well, here we are,” he said in the video. “About to go out and start work, day 1 of THE CHOSEN. I’m excited, and I’m a bit emotional, and I’m looking forward to just being completely open to everything that happens inside as I say the words of our Lord. So not much else to say. See you on the other side.”

In the caption of the post, present-day Roumie shared a heartfelt message about the incredible journey.

“If only I’d known…😳🤦🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️” he began.

“Eight years ago, I was invited to play Jesus in an obscure, crowd-funded four-episode ‘web series’ (basically 😂) which you could ONLY view via its proprietary app 😳🤪, that chronicled Christ’s ministry over three years.”

He added, “There was only enough money to fund the first HALF of the first season. But by the grace of God, here we are SEVEN seasons later! 😱😱”

It’s been the honor of a lifetime for Roumie to portray Jesus.

“Words will never adequately describe the incredible honor it has been to portray our Lord in the @thechosentvseries, not only in those first four episodes — specifically because of what they meant to me at that moment in my life personally — but for all the subsequent moments, encounters, stories and spiritual lessons He would allow me to participate in and learn from all these years later,” he said.

Roumie explained that shortly before the video, he was “utterly penniless, past-due (every bill imaginable 💸💸) and out of prospects.”

He continued, “So when I say ‘emotional,’ I was barely keeping it together on-camera as I was reflecting on God‘s Infinite Mercy in my life at that moment. He is always true to His Word!! Trust Him with your troubles.”

Roumie thanked fans for their continued support as filming for the final season begins.

“I so appreciate all your prayers as I get ready to ‘step back into His sandals’ one last time. 🙏🏽❤️ Thanks for joining me friends,” he concluded.

Filming for the Season 7 is currently underway.

“The scripts are done, and we’re making some adjustments for budget and for schedule,” creator Dallas Jenkins said in a livestream. “This is going to be another long season of filming for us. We want to finish strong. We want to land the plane in a very beautiful way.”

He added, “We have the responses to the scripts from the cast and from some of those who’ve been reading them. So far, I’m getting texts of just excitement and tears and joy and beauty and all these things that I think you’re going to see in Season 7.”

Movieguide®’s review of the most recently released Season 5 reads, “THE CHOSEN:  LAST SUPPER – PART THREE continues to retell the story of Jesus Christ in a visually attractive way, with strong performances. The movie does a good job sticking mostly to Scriptural accounts. It refers to Jesus as the Lamb of God who will take away the sins of the world.”

The review notes, “THE CHOSEN:  LAST SUPPER – PART THREE has some scary images, violence and extremely sad story elements. MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for younger children.”

THE CHOSEN Season 6 will begin streaming on Prime Video this fall, followed by the season finale’s release around Holy Week 2027.
