THE CHOSEN’s Jonathan Roumie often speaks about how the power of prayer has influenced his life, whether it’s in his career or his personal life. Here are five inspirational quotes from Roumie about the role prayer plays in his life.
SURRENDER TO GOD
For Roumie, one of the prayers he most returns to is one of surrender to God and His will — “Oh, Jesus, I surrender myself to you. Take care of everything.”
“The fundamental prayer that is kind of the guiding theme of my life is rooted in the idea of surrender and that I’m not in control, that God is in control, but I have to be a willing participant,” Roumie said in an interview with ANC Digital. “If I’m not a willing participant in God’s grace through the act of my own personal surrender, then I’m being a bit hypocritical in my trust in His work in my life.”

GOODNESS FROM SUFFERING
The CHOSEN star frequently partners with Hallow, recording prayers, devotions, and more for the app’s users. Last year, Roumie reflected on the Liturgy of Hours, which he called one of his “favorite daily prayers.”
“Despite its tone, I still derive comfort through the supplication of these prayers to the Creator of the Universe, knowing that the offering up of my own trials and suffering will sanctify and create goodness out of them, and become useful to the Lord and ultimately to my own soul,” he wrote in an Instagram post.
GRATITUDE FOR GOD’S PLAN
In an Instagram post celebrating six years of THE CHOSEN, Roumie shared his gratitude for God’s influence in his life.
“Thank you God for the abundance – nay, the embarrassment of riches more like — You have provided me in these subsequent six years,” Roumie wrote. “I am nothing without You. With Your help, for as long as I am able, not a day (or an anniversary) will go by where I do not reflect and give thanks to You for this sacred transition, this watershed turning point granted to me, Your unworthy servant, by Your loving hand in Jesus’ Holy Name I pray. Amen.”
DEEPEN YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD
In a 2023 interview with Fox News, the actor encouraged others to find “peace and a deeper relationship with Christ” by building a habit of prayer.
“As you consistently tap into that habit, you find your relationship with Jesus growing deeper and deeper, just automatically,” Roumie continued. “And as a result, you then experience much more peace, tranquility and serenity in your life and the ability to really muscle through some of the most difficult obstacles and challenges that life can throw at you.”
RECHARGE THROUGH PRAYER
Roumie often talks about the restorative power of prayer in his life. In a 2024 interview with Fox News, the actor shared that he often has “quiet time” where he can fully focus on prayer.
“I think when Jesus felt the pressure of life, of human life, He would go off on His own to pray and get recharged and just find quiet time,” he said. “I do this. I find that doing the same thing — going off to pray by myself and just spend time with God in prayer alone — is monumentally impactful to me.”
