CHARLIE’S ANGELS star Kate Jackson walked away from a Hollywood career to focus on motherhood — and she wouldn’t have had it any other way.

“I realized that I really couldn’t be a good director and a good mom at the same time. And I thought, ‘If I’m not a good mom, it really doesn’t matter what else I do well,’” she said at PaleyFest LA panel.

Jackson adopted son Charles in 1995

In an interview with PEOPLE, Jackson elaborated, saying, “So I just walked away from everything. I didn’t take jobs and after, I don’t know, three or four years, they stopped asking. But my life was busy and full and I loved it. I loved everything about being a mom.”

“I wanted to be the best mom I could possibly be, and that felt like the way to do it,” she continued.

In another interview with the outlet, Jackson shared that the fame CHARLIE’S ANGELS brought her also led to her decision to step out of the spotlight.

“We lost our privacy, totally. We just absolutely totally lost every bit of privacy,” she told PEOPLE. “And then, to make it worse, those horrible tabloids.”

Jackson, along with co-stars Farrah Fawcett, Jaclyn Smith and Cheryl Ladd, skyrocketed to fame with their starring roles in hit show CHARLIE’S ANGELS.

The actress discussed her dislike of social media as well, saying, “I don’t understand social media. I mean, I don’t get it. All I want is a little privacy. And I don’t understand why people are so fond of taking their picture and telling the world where they are at this very moment, doing this thing. I don’t get it.”

Jackson also spoke about her life in Virginia, where she has spent the last few years.

“I love being in Virginia, and I really enjoy the farm,” she explained. “I’ve got chickens, a couple of horses. Most of it’s woods, but it’s 128 acres and it’s beautiful and it’s quiet and peaceful. It’s a good place for me, and I love being in the mountains.”

The actress has been considering a comeback, though — “I’m in California now and going to see what happens and if there are things to do, if there’s work to be had, acting or directing.”

For Jackson, being a present mother was more important than her Hollywood career.
