BOSTON BLUE Season 2 will likely start filming soon, though there’s no official announcement about that yet.
However, if it wants to keep its fall start date, it will have to start filming soon.
Donnie Whalberg, who leads the series and also sings in his band, New Kids on The Block, has concert dates set from June 19 to July 4 and then Oct. 2 to Oct. 17. So it’s likely that the show will film after July 4, TV Insider reported.
The show is expected to come out this fall at Fridays at 10/9c — its usual timeslot, which was previously held by BLUE BLOODS.
“When I got offered the job, I’m like, ‘This is a dream come true.’ I thought, I’ll do a spinoff in LA or Vegas or Texas, somewhere hot,” Wahlberg, a Boston native, previously said.
“And they were like, ‘How about Boston?’ I was like, ‘Ahhhh.’ They hooked me. And I was like, ‘Alright, let’s do it in Boston,’” he said.
However, most of the show is shot in Toronto, which Wahlberg wasn’t too happy about.

“I was like, ‘No, no.’ So, I said, ‘Listen, I’ll give back 50% of my paycheck if we can go to Boston.’ I did. And they said, ‘You can give back 100% and so can the rest of the cast; we cannot film this show in Boston.’ It’s so expensive,” he explained.
When Wahlberg got the news Season 2 would be renewed, he called all of his castmates and his wife, Jenny McCarthy, to tell them.
“And I did it, and every cast member got tears in their eyes, every single one of them, and so did I,” he told PEOPLE. “And when I called Jenny and told her about that, we shared a nice cry.”
Wahlberg had requested to make the calls himself, as he’s also an executive producer on the show.
“I said as one of the EPs, I’d like to be the one to tell them. And everyone agreed,” he said.
In Season 2, the show will focus on detective Lena Silver’s relationships with Chris and Kirstina.
“What does it look like to get to know someone that you were supposed to know your whole life?” said showrunner Brandon Sonnier. “What does it look like to introduce a new biological sister when you are so very close to your stepsister? How do those new triangles and relationship dynamics work?”
Showrunner Brandon Margolis also hinted that Silver may encounter some unpleasant things as a result of digging into her past.
