The Babylon Bee personality and dad of four Jarret LeMaster says parenting comes with understanding how God uniquely made each of his children.
“My eldest son…he wasn’t great at baseball,” LeMaster told Movieguide®’s “We Who Dad” podcast. “Learned how to work at baseball. He applied that to playing guitar, and now he’s like really good. But like that’s the thing, is like, he wasn’t good, became pretty good.”
His other sons were all different when it came to finding their baseball ability.
“My second son, naturally talented, tried couple things out, broke his arm, and then he just never cared about it. Third son is so, he’s so shy, and he’s so like hesitant. He had all the talent, but he was hesitant. My fourth son has all the talent, and he loves it, and…he never makes mistakes out there, like insane. That’s like — it’s just crazy, but like it all kind of culminated in my fourth son.”
LeMaster continued, “I think it is interesting. Birth order plays into it, because our second one was naturally talented at everything. He hasn’t had to work very hard at much. So it’s really interesting. But he does work.”

The dad motivates his children to thrive in their strengths.
“So with Owen, he’s our second…he flipped a switch at some point. And it wasn’t with physical stuff. It was with homework. So like he gets up at 6:30 in the morning, sits down at the table and just does work well,” LeMaster explained
He continued, “My first son, he has 100 things going on, lots of friends, all kinds of stuff. And he always is like, ‘I gotta do that assignment.’ Owen is like, ‘I’m already done. I’ve worked all day today, I think I’ll take a break now.’ He never gets up to go do anything, and he just sits there and works like it’s crazy.”
He added, “He’s so creative, and he’s the guy that might be a filmmaker or something like that. He’s just so creative.”
Proverbs 22:6 says, “Train up a child in the way he should go. And when he is old he will not depart from it.” When we encourage our children in their God-given strengths, we do just that.
Aside from his role in The Babylon Bee, LeMaster frequently shares his faith.
In a recent post to Instagram, he said, “I’ll tell you, the theology that ‘When you follow Christ, everything works out’ has been something that has hurt a lot of people because that’s not actually the case. Sometimes, when you follow Jesus, it gets harder, and He never promised that we wouldn’t suffer, but He did promise that He would always go through it with us. He never leaves us, He never forsakes us and He’s a God who understands.”
No matter where your children’s talents lie, take time to encourage them and remind them that God has a plan for their lives.
