Anne Hathaway cleared up some rumors about THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2.
The actress advocated to have models of all sizes featured in the movie to be inclusive, but some of her actions were misconstrued.
“It was just this kind of quick thing that happened on set, and now it’s become a much bigger story,” she told GOOD MORNING AMERICA.
Hathaway continued, “I do want to mention there’s a little misinformation getting out there right now that people were fired because of the size inclusivity, and that just didn’t happen. Nobody lost their jobs. In fact, it created more jobs.”

The controversy started after Hathaway’s DEVIL costar Meryl Streep told Harper’s Bazaar that she was surprised by the number of “skinny” models they saw at a fashion show ahead of filming.
“Annie clocked it too, and she made a beeline to the producers about it, securing promises that the models in the show that we were putting together for our film would not be so skeletal! She’s a stand-up girl,” Streep said.
In a conversation with Variety, Hathaway went more in depth about how her passion for inclusivity started.
“I had noticed that we had beautiful models on set, and a lot of them were more traditionally model-sized. I knew what the context of the scene was, and I thought the scene would be so much more enjoyable for the audience if we had just a wider range of bodies on display, because all different shapes are beautiful,” she explained.
“I just went to the producers, and I asked that question: ‘Don’t you think the scene would be stronger if we had a more inclusive approach to sizing?’” Hathaway added. “They looked up and were so sad that they hadn’t thought about it. I think they were so locked in, just kind of going with the flow. But as soon as they saw it, they were the ones who made it happen in like an hour.”
The sequel is set to come out May 1. Hathaway’s character, Andy Sachs, has changed from the original, which came out nearly 20 years ago.
“Andy has lived a life that has given her a lot of satisfaction. She did what she wanted to do, she’s had a lot of adventures,” she explained to the New York Times. “The thing that she doesn’t have, and she’s having a hard time finding, is something that a lot people in the world are having a difficult time finding, which is job security. And so the thing that just kept coming up for me on this movie was how much she wanted a home.”
Movieguide® found THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2 to be lackluster: “The movie lacks the charm of the first, has a weak plot, and no central storyline.”
Furthermore, “THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2 has a mixed worldview. The main character in the movie has a moral worldview, thinking of others, and being empathetic. While Meryl Streep’s character has a humanistic conversation in front of Da Vinci’s Last Supper. The conversation implied DaVinci believed Jesus was an imperfect human. Of course, this character, in general, is not seen as moral and is a bit of a villain at times. MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for older children and teenagers.”
