Deion Sanders revealed he recently battled bladder cancer after announcing several months ago that he was dealing with a then undisclosed health concern.

At a recent press conference, the University of Colorado Boulder football head coach said he underwent surgery to remove his bladder. He is now “cured,” per NBC News.

During the press conference, Coach Prime sat next to his doctor, Dr. Janet Kukreja. At one point, he looked to Dr. Kukreja and said, “We’re going to beat it, aren’t we?”

“It’s beaten,” she replied.

Even though Sanders has remained positive, it was challenging.

“It wasn’t a cakewalk. It wasn’t easy,” Sanders said. “Even using the bathroom thereafter was a challenge.”

He also encouraged everyone to “get checked out.”

“Because if it wasn’t for me getting tested for something else, they wouldn’t have stumbled upon this,” he added. “Make sure you go to get the right care, because without wonderful people like this, I probably wouldn’t be sitting here today.”

While he dealt with his health issues, he stepped back from the Buffalos during the off season. In June, he posted on X, thanking fans for their prayers.

“Wow, I am truly blessed for the abundance of well wishes, for all the thoughts and all of the prayers. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!” he wrote. “I can assure you all that everything is OKAY and will continue to be so. God got me like no other. I have so much more work to do to glorify God, so please believe God got me! I’m excited to get back to Colorado to be at home with my staff, team & all associated to our program. When we arrive back to Boulder, you will be updated on everything. Until then, I’M COMING, BABY.”

Since his return to Colorado, Sanders has been eager to get the season started.

“I’m happy and elated about everything, especially this opportunity that I have to coach these young men and to lead some of these women that are part of our organization, part of this program,” he said Monday. “I’m so thankful to be back in Boulder, you have no idea. But I never doubted one bit that I would be. I knew it was just a matter of time.”

He took time to thank Jesus and his fans once again.

“I want to Thank everyone that prayed, thought of my journey & ask[ed] God to intervene. I appreciate u so much. Without prayer where would we be. Also thank u for your friendship[,] your faithfulness & your spirit that exudes Peace,” he wrote on Instagram, adding, “Thank you JESUS” in the caption.

Praise God that Sanders is cured and can return to coaching this season.
