Brandon Lake’s latest collab with Nick Jonas made him view community in a new way.
“It wasn’t as far of a leap as I thought, with us collaborating, and I think…that is so rad,” he said in an Instagram video.
Jonas added, “It’s the pastor’s kid connection” — both he and Lake are sons of pastors.
“So, let that be a testimony that, man, it’s never as far of a leap as you think,” Lake continued. “Whether that’s just you connecting with your neighbor, or maybe it’s a big opportunity.”

He explained, “I’m learning that there’s power in collaboration and in community because I think that’s what the Kingdom looks like, and I think that’s what heals people, is coming together.”
Lake and Jonas collaborated on “The Author,” which Jonas said was “one of my favorite things I’ve ever been a part of writing” in another Instagram video.
“People see us on the stage, or they see us out here, you know, just doing what we’re doing and living our lives, and oftentimes, I think they can overlook the fact that we’re going through the same day-to-day things that we’re all going through: tests of confidence, and ‘am I being a good father today?’ Am I being a great husband? Am I showing up for my friends?’” he explained.
Jonas continued, “When life throws these curveballs at you, how you respond is a direct reflection of your real connection with your God and with your faith…I think that it’s been really gratifying to see…people’s reactions across my fanbase and yours.”
Jonas has been open about his Christian faith, recently sharing that during a time of hardship for his family as a teen, he questioned his faith.
Shortly before his family band, the Jonas Brothers, released their first album, their father was pushed out of the church where he had been working as a pastor. The family dealt with financial difficulties during this tumultuous time, and things got more complicated for the then-teenage Jonas as the Jonas Brothers took off.
“It all kind of collided at the same time, and you look up and life just looked very different,” he said during an appearance on “The Jay Shetty Podcast.” “It took a lot of faith, and even questioning faith at that time, going from the safety net of the church to all of a sudden being sort of betrayed by them and having to redefine your relationship with God while going through some of your toughest moments.”
Jonas continued, “Throughout those years following our exit from the church, I really questioned faith and what relationship I would have to organized religion at all, which is something that I can say now knowing that my relationship with my God is totally intact and that my belief is totally intact. And I think it’s important for everyone to go on that journey of self-discovery.”
