STAR WARS: THE MANDALORIAN AND GROGU will release in theaters tomorrow, and it expects a solid take at the box office.
According to Deadline, the total expected revenue is $160 million worldwide, “with $80M of that from a 98% footprint offshore. The only territory not going this weekend is Korea. That start for the $165M net production would be slightly ahead of the global opening of 2018’s SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY in like-for-likes. That box office low point in the franchise — which went into theaters with a lot of behind-the-scenes melodrama (Lord & Miller were fired and the directing reins handed to Ron Howard — posted a 4-day over Memorial Day weekend of $103M domestic and another $52M abroad.”
THE MANDALORIAN AND GROGU stars Pedro Pascal, Sigourney Weaver and Jeremy Allen White and is produced by Jon Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, Dave Filoni and Ian Bryce, with music composed by Ludwig Göransson. Favreau returns as the man behind the camera as director.
A part of Movieguide®’s review for STAR WARS: THE MANDALORIAN AND GROGU reads:
STAR WARS: THE MANDALORIAN AND GROGU brings the popular TV series onto the big screen. The movie opens with Mando and his adopted son, Grogu, fighting and stopping an Imperial warlord trying to restore the evil Empire. They destroy the warlord’s army but fail to bring him back alive for questioning. Their next assignment for the New Republic is to rescue Rotta, the kidnapped son of the late gangster Jabba the Hutt. In exchange, Rotta’s two uncles will give them info about a mysterious new Imperial warlord. However, Mando and Grogu learn some secrets about the uncles and their nephew that change the nature of their assignment.

THE MANDALORIAN AND GROGU is action-packed and has some funny, heartwarming moments, with no foul language. It also has strong positive themes about fighting tyranny and evil, doing the right thing, helping the young find their way, and risking your life to rescue others. However, THE MANDALORIAN AND GROGU has lots of strong action violence, including many fights against scary monsters and some scenes where Grogu uses mystical Force magic. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for older children.
According to an Instagram post from Pascal last month, it’s all about “The old protect[s] the young, and then the young protect[s] the old.”
The movie brings characters from TV show THE MANDALORIAN to the big screen for the first time.
“That was my secret wish from the beginning,” Pascal, who’s played Din Djarin for seven years now, said of bringing his character from streaming to the theater. “I love that it had beautiful seasons for people to see it at home, but now Jon Favreau, our director, knows a big screen experience puts all of his love of STAR WARS, all of his love of movies, into this one on the biggest screen possible. It’s a thrill ride.”
