NFL and NASCAR Hall of Famer Joe Gibbs needed to reprioritize his life after he realized his faith had started to take a back seat.
“You’re competitive. You want to win. You drive. You go hard. It was a struggle to keep the right priorities in life. I sat down with my two boys, and I said, ‘Look, I got to apologize the time I was gone. I could have handled that differently and I hope you can learn from me. Don’t do that!’…And I’m trying to invest in my grandkids,” Gibbs recalled in an interview with CBN News.
With his background in football and now in NASCAR, Gibbs is on a mission to share the love of God.

“God, down through history, has chosen very average people. I’m an average Joe! I know that! And He’s chosen those average people – and blessed them with some great experiences and a great life and certainly that’s been the case with me. The Lord has blessed me and I want to share that!” he shared.
“I think about Jesus is the way he loved others. He was a servant-style leader and I think that’s what characterized him. He set the ultimate example and I think that’s the reason why so many people have invited him into their life and asked him to be their Lord and Savior,” he added later on.
Gibbs created his foundation, Game Plan for Life, “a ministry dedicated to helping others discover God’s purpose through faith, education, and mentorship. His life’s mission is rooted in empowering others to live with eternal impact by following God’s game plan.”
While at different NASCAR events, Gibbs always takes time to present the gospel to those in attendance. While at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway, he used his two sons’ deaths to share the Good News.
“I had two boys, the wild thing, both of them went to be with the Lord at 49,” he told the crowd last year in September. “JD helped build the race team. Now that’s terrible for the time here on earth, for me and Pat. But here’s the deal, I’m excited because I know where they are. They both gave their life at an early age. They’re in heaven. I’m going to get to spend eternity with them by being on God’s team.”
“Maybe some of you have had loved ones belong to the Lord. They’re in heaven. Let’s make sure I get a chance to be with you in Heaven,” he continued. “And we can do that by getting on God’s team, and we can do it by praying this little prayer. Let’s pray this prayer with me right now. If anybody has any questions about whose team you’re on. Let’s take care of it right now.”
When Gibbs reprioritized his life, everything became clearer for him. It’s a good reminder to keep Christ first in our lives.
