NFL and NASCAR hall of famer Joe Gibbs presented the gospel to those attending a NASCAR Cup Series race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

“I had two boys, the wild thing, both of them went to be with the Lord at 49,” he told the audience. “JD helped build the race team. Now that’s terrible for the time here on earth, for me and Pat. But here’s the deal, I’m excited because I know where they are. They both gave their life at an early age. They’re in heaven. I’m going to get to spend eternity with them by being on God’s team.”

“Maybe some of you have had loved ones belong to the Lord. They’re in heaven. Let’s make sure I get a chance to be with you in Heaven. And we can do that by getting on God’s team, and we can do it by praying this little prayer. Let’s pray this prayer with me right now. If anybody has any questions about whose team you’re on. Let’s take care of it right now.”

Gibbs then led the crowd in prayer.

“Father, I just want to thank you for today,” Coach Gibbs began. “I thank you for everybody here. I thank you for the fact that we’re not accidents. You loved us, and you made each one of us. You knit us together in our mother’s womb, and you love us, and you want us to be on your team. You gave us freedom of choice. We can choose to do that, or we can choose to play against you forever. And none of us here, Father, wants to do that, and so here’s my request.”

“If there’s anybody out there that wants to get on God’s team, please pray this little prayer with me right now, meaning it in your heart,” he continued. “And that prayer goes like this: Father, I know that I’m a sinner, and I know that you sent your Son, Jesus Christ, to this earth. He lived a perfect life, and you allowed Him to take my sins to that cross and be crucified there so I could have forgiveness of sin. I ask you to come into my life, forgive me of my sins and be my Lord and personal Savior.”

Gibbs is a former NFL coach and a three-time Super Bowl champion, two-time AP coach of the year and is in the NFL Hall of Fame.

After he concluded his time in the NFL, he created his own racing company called Joe Gibbs Racing and later launched a ministry called Game Plan for Life.

“You and I are players, God’s our coach, and we’re playing the biggest game of all,” Gibbs said on the Game Plan for Life website. “We have a loving God that made us. We need to get on His team. It says in His word, there’s only one way to Him and that’s through Jesus Christ. Ask Him to be your Savior. What you find is that there’s really only two teams in the game of life. If you’re on God’s team, you can’t lose.

Though death, loss and sin can rock our world, turning to Christ for salvation offers hope, peace and freedom.
