Brandon Lake collaborated with former Disney star Nick Jonas on a new faith-filled single, “The Author.”
Lake shared a clip of him and Jonas introducing the song to a live audience on May 1.
“WHAT JUST HAPPENED?! 🤯🤯 ‘The Author’ with my brother @nickjonas is OUT NOW, and debuting it live “from my hometown” just felt right,” Lake wrote in the caption.
Some of the song’s lyrics are:

To question the pen in the hands of The Author?
The press release for the song describes the song as “a seamless collision of two worlds: Jonas’ polished pop sensibility and Lake’s powerful, inspirational vocals coming together in a way that feels both unexpected and undeniable.”
It was written by Brandon Lake, Nick Jonas, Benjamin William Hastings, Trannie Anderson and Micah Nichols last December.
Anderson said, “The heart behind this song came from a purely creative moment with Nick sitting at the piano. Talking through our personal experiences, we all deeply believe we can trust God to write our individual stories within and for the glory of His own.”
She continued, “He is writing a greater story with purpose, goodness, and ultimate redemption for the world. We can trust the pen knowing it’s in the hands of a good author ✍🏻.”
The duo also released a remix of “Hope,” which originally came out on the Jonas Brothers’ recent solo album, Sunday Best.
The Jonas Brothers’ father was a pastor until his sons signed a record deal in 2005.
“Our dad was at that church for 10 years. It was a real safety net for us and a place where we felt a part of a community,” Jonas previously shared on the “On Purpose with Jay Shetty” podcast.
He continued, “Some of the families that were there prior to our arrival did not like my dad and made it their mission to get him pushed out of the church. So effectively, he lost his job while also funding this dream of ours.”
It was a very hard time for the family. They had lost their community and “safety net” and felt betrayed. Since then, Jonas questioned his faith and religion.
Now, he says, “my relationship with my God is totally intact and that my belief is totally intact.”
