Christian country singer Anne Wilson believes comparison steals joy and the unique traits that God has given each of us.
“Comparison is something that I’ve struggled with so much of my life but I have found in the last couple of years that when you compare yourself to others you are truly lessening who God made you to be, and God made only one of you, and you are unique and you are specially designed,” she said in a social media video this week.
She talks about comparison more in her new book, Rebel.

“This world will always try to tell you who to be, but your worth isn’t found in comparison — it’s found in Jesus,” she said in the caption. “You were uniquely made in His image, on purpose, for a purpose. My prayer is that this book encourages you to keep your eyes on Him and walk boldly in who He created you to be 🤍.”
In March, she shared that she tries to only fill herself with good things and immediately shut down thoughts of comparison when she sees another girl’s photo on social media.
“Shutting it down and reminding myself, like, to guard my heart and to keep my eyes fixed on who Jesus says I am. That’s been huge for me,” Wilson said on “The Upload Life with Brooke Taylor” podcast. “I think it’s just important to keep your heart guarded and to remind yourself that you are who God says you are, and not what people think and say about you. And honestly, that’s really freeing, too.”
In 2022, Wilson said the main lies young women believe are that they need to be like someone else or that their worth lies in what a guy thinks about them.
“I remember being in that stage of going through some of that and having all these mentors speak so much life into me. I’m grateful looking back that I had women to speak over me, guide me in that area and go, ‘Your identity is not in a guy but in what the Lord says about you. You’re a daughter of the highest king,’ she recalled. “That’s an honor that we get to be that.”
She hopes to lead girls in the same way through her books, devotionals, and of course, music.
In the end, “It’s not about what the world says about you. It’s not about what the enemy says about you or speaks over you, but truly your identity is in Jesus and you’re a child of Him.”
