Despite Erin and Ben Napier’s hit HOME TOWN and spin-off show HOME TOWN TAKEOVER, she’s most proud of her and Ben’s two daughters Helen, 7, and Mae, 4.
“The things that we have all built together, which is wonderful and I’m so grateful for our friendship and partnership that has built beautiful and wonderful things that our city enjoys,” Erin told cousin Jim Rasberry and long-time friend Josh Nowell on the “Heirloom” podcast. “[But] my kids are the most important thing that we’ve made.”
“But every parent in the world feels that way. So that’s not a unique answer,” she added.
When the topic of legacy came up on the podcast, Erin said that she hopes hers is making day-to -day moments special.
“Blooming where you’re planted. I hope that is the legacy that I leave,” the Mississippi native said. “No matter where you are. There is something good and beautiful and worth celebrating right there.”
“In the summer, I might say, ‘Let’s get a picnic blanket and let’s go to the front yard and we’ll eat lunch together,’” the busy mom of two gave as an example. “And it was nothing special, except we ate outside on a blanket instead of at the kitchen table.”
As Erin grew up in Laurel, she said that she hopes that her two kids will grow to love the city, known for its historic architecture and Southern charm, as much as she does.
“Maybe they’ll remember it…I hope they’re inspired to not leave Laurel when they’re adults,” she said.
That doesn’t mean the Napiers don’t love to travel, as the clan recently made a trip to Scotland, getting in touch with Ben’s roots.
Erin shared her thoughts of what she loved about Scotland (“@houseofthenortherngate is my favorite place”) and what she missed being out of the U.S. (“ is there a reason they don’t have ranch in the UK? i mean, have they tasted it?”) as well as the challenges of traveling with little ones.
“IYKYK. travel makes your kids flexible and indestructible!” Erin wrote.
The Napiers were just green lit for 32 more episodes of HOMETOWN that will keep them busy filming until 2027.
After that, they have some ideas for another spinoff. One idea is where the couple sit in a movie theatre a la MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000 and discuss movies.
“But instead of sci-fi movies, we watch old Nancy Meyers movies, like [THE] PARENT TRAP,” Ben joked.
The two would discuss “the houses and the set design and why these characters live in these rooms and these houses and what it says about the character,” Erin explained.
They might be just brainstorming ideas for now as Erin pointed out, “HGTV has absolutely not said they want to make this show.”
Who knows, maybe SET DESIGN SCIENCE THEATER will be their next hit series?
