Sadie Sink is opening up about what it was really like joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe opposite Tom Holland, and the STRANGER THINGS star says her new co-star made the leap into blockbuster territory a lot less intimidating than she expected.
“It was interesting stepping into that space and being a little bit of an outsider in that way, but he could not have been more welcoming, and just the whole crew in general,” Sink told Nylon, according to Deadline. “He was just so relaxed and open, and I felt very at ease.”
Sink joined the cast of SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY in a still-under-wraps role back in March 2025, and Marvel and Sony have kept a tight lid on her character ever since. Fans have floated everything from Jean Grey to a brand-new villain, and Sink admits the guessing game around her own part has been strange to watch play out.
“I knew that Marvel was a big deal and had a big brand, especially Spider-Man,” she said. “I know there’s a huge fan base, but it feels really big. I think these blockbuster movies are a whole different beast.”

That “beast” lands in theaters July 31. SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY reunites Holland’s Peter Parker with Zendaya, Jon Bernthal and Mark Ruffalo, with Liza Colón-Zayas rounding out the new additions alongside Sink. Destin Daniel Cretton directs the fourth chapter of Holland’s run as Spider-Man, working from a script by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.
Movieguide® has followed the movie’s path to release since Sink’s casting first broke, through Holland calling BRAND NEW DAY “a rebirth” for the franchise and a trailer that shattered records, racking up 718.6 million views in its first 24 hours, nearly double DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE’s previous mark.
Sink’s account of settling into a franchise this size says something worth noticing, even though it’s a small thing next to box office numbers. A newcomer feeling steadied by a veteran co-star rather than sidelined by one doesn’t make headlines the way a trailer record does, but it says plenty about the kind of set BRAND NEW DAY turned out to be.
Holland has talked before about wanting his work, on set and off, to reflect something better than the industry’s reputation; he’s been open about his sobriety and about treating the people around him well. Sink’s description of him lines up with that. It’s a small reminder that character behind the camera can matter just as much as the story in front of it.
Movieguide®’s review of the franchise’s last outing, SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME, praised its “strong moral, redemptive premise that everyone deserves a second chance,” while flagging language and violence for family viewers to weigh. Parents will want to apply that same discernment when BRAND NEW DAY opens later this month, but on the evidence of Sink’s interview, the cast at least seems to be starting from a decent place.
